i am a Oregon resident on paper but never been a day in my life. i did it for tax reasons since im in the military and got my last truck (chevy) tags title and tax for 5 years for all of $145. then i bought my f150 and thought i was going to do the same thing. i was wrong. i guess they are starting to catch on to guys like me so i had to pay tags title and tax in oklahoma and man they really bent me over and gave it to me hard. it came out just shy of $1500. that was going to be my lift kit but oklahoma had other plans. o well you live and learn

Im in the military as well and I always register my trucks in MT. The difference between you and I is I lived in MT for 18 years. I don't think I would have the stones to pull what you did. You are talking BIG fines if you were caught and they wanted to hammer you. Best of luck guy.

DITTO that!

I keep my F-150 in the garage with the windows rolled up (hermetically sealed). After 7,500 miles, it still has the "new car smell" without the aid of an air freshener.

With respect to the OP comment, my plates came in the mail about 3 weeks after I picked up my truck from the dealer. I waited another week before putting the plates on the truck. No emotional trauma. :-)

The air freshener is a different story.

It took almost 8 weeks to get it in, which is a little long I think.

Bleeder....I had to put an air freshener in the day after I got it! I bought the truck in from a dealer in LA, but we found it in Pensacola FL and the SOB's smoked in it during delivery. My sales lady gave me a "Clean cotton" air freshener/odor absorber that worked like a champ!

Last edited by bwag5; Sep 30, 2010 at 11:33 PM. Reason: added air freshener

Well we pay 13% tax on the final price. (admin fees, sticker, omvic, etc. ) then $10 for a generic plate or $380 (i think) for a personal plate, plus $74 to license the plate per year.

the plate and sticker is given to you upon paying for it at the ministry of transportation office. unless ordering a personal plate.
mine was already on the truck when i picked it up as the dealer just added the fees into my loan and got it token care of.

lol.....lots of different taxing structures posted....interesting.

Just to put the TAG on my FX4 cost almost $1400 in 'personal property tax'. That doesn't count all the other taxes I paid....sigh. And the little town I live in has like...3...paved streets. Not sure what all those taxes go for.....grrrrrrrrrr!

When one stops to think about it, these locales with high taxes on new vehicles are a big detriment to people wanting to buy new, sort of a counter-stimulus.

well i think they are catching on and thats why i wasn't able to do that. i now more than half the people i work with claim either oregon texas or florida for their primary residence that way they don't have to pay taxes. but oklahoma just put out that military are exempt from paying state taxes but thats just for your LES not your tags title and tax on vehicles. i think its a little ridiculous to pay that much for taxes any way. this tax crap is getting a little out of hand.
