Road Trip
Just Got back from a 3200 mile trip with my 2011 XLT SCAB 2X. She did real well. We left the Florida Panhandle last Monday and arrived in Evergreen Colorado Wed Morning. Evergreen is to the west and 3,000 feet higher than Denver.
The driving was uneventful except for a dirt storm on the way there and hitting and killing a large bird on the way back.
The dirt storm lasted 500 miles (from north TX to Colorado) and was so bad visibility was zero at times. 60 to 70 mph head winds and raining MUD. I thought the paint was going to be toast, but the Colanite protected it!! The dirt was so bad I poured a cup of dirt out of the air cleaner as soon as we got out of the storm. (air cleaner was replaced shortly thereafter)
The bird was the size of a basketball and I thought it took out the drivers headlight. Thankfully it hit just below the headlight on the painted plastic strip that covers the gap between the bumper and the heads. A small crack but nothing to worry about.
Gas mileage started out at around 20 and stayed around 20 until the wind storm, then it went to 19 and even at 8,000 feet it was just under 19 the whole 3 days at elevation. The mileage climbed the whole way back until it got to 20mpg again somewhere in Texas.......man Texas goes on, and on, and on.......
We did stop at the Duck Commander Warehouse in West Monroe, LA. I now have a Duck commander bird on the back window.
All in all it was a great trip. We went to CO to see my Mother because she had brain surgery, all went fantastic and she was up and going out to dinner with us in a few days after the surgery.
The F-150 lived up to its name "FORD Tough" and no one had to die (except one bird).

BTW Forgot to mention
I have the 3.7 V-6 and it did superb in the mountains. I was very happy with the amount of downshifting it didn't do. Just pulled strong and when I needed to accelerate, a heavier foot brought on a downshift and some pleasing RPM's. That thing sounded great tearing up the up-hill grades and never complained.
