Default Road Trip

Taking a trip from Chicago to Chino CA, and wondering where a good rest point would be. Taking I80 I70 router through Denver. Be a good way to get miles on the truck!

This is not answering your question but it's somewhat related ... if you have an Android phone, download this app: USA Rest Stops

Once loaded, you select the state you're traveling in, select the interstate your traveling, then it shows you the next rest stop and whether it has restrooms, vending, fuel and security.

You can also select which direction your treveling, north, south, east, west... and when you can switch to "map view" and your phones GPS will show you where you are and where the rest stops are. When you select a rest stop, it tells you the distance away, the mile marker the rest stop is located, and the hours of operation.

a MUST when traveling.

Note: there may be an iPhone app as well but I don't know.

Sorry I hijacked the thread but I thought it might be useful.

Good luck!

I've done this drive many times...if you're not in a rush...take I-90 across to Rapid City...lots to see there. Cut across the Black Hills and take mostly 2 lanes across the interior of WY over towards Caspar...then drop down on the 2 lanes again towards Rock Spring and I-90. This takes you to Salt Lake...head south on hwy 89 just past SLC at Spanish Fork...drive through Bryce and Zion national parks...this is some of the most incredible country that you will ever see...if you are in the mood you can swing down to see the Grand Canyon...eventually hook up to I-15 towards Vegas...from there it's a straight shot to LA via I-15.

Have a blast.

Fixed it for ya!

The only change I think I'd make is skip the Rock Springs/Salt Lake portion, and instead head south to Rocky Mtn National Park, and head to Utah on I-70 through Grand Junction CO. The southern Utah parks are amazing.

Btw, OP is a quick trip, or more of a sight seeing trip? You didn't really say.

If going through Colorado, stop at Glenwood Springs, right off I-70. Soak your tired body in the huge mineral springs pool. I just got back from my 2wk vacation in Colorado (drove all over), loved it!

Rifle falls is awesome to see too.

I need to be in Chino Friday night. I have an arrangement to get exclusive access to something there on Saturday, so the quickest route is through CO. I'm thinking Denver is the halfway point, but wondering if further West would be more doable in a day. Never did trust the travel times on the Nav or maps.

Yeah, I think Denver would be your best bet as a stopping place if you're planning on doing it in 2 days. 15 hour days though, and that is generally a bit more than I like to go, but I've done it many times. 12-13 is more my style if I'm going somewhere, and 6-8 if I'm sightseeing along the way.
