Ive searched as much as i can and i can't see an answer to this.
I just bought a 2011 FX4 SCREW, it has everything i wanted minus navigation. I have the single zone heating controls and the 'Premium' electronic am/fm stereo.
What is the OEM (Sony) model number for the head unit? Can i buy it after market and will it work with the Sync and steering wheel controls?
Is there another brand that will work with the Sync and the steering wheel controls?
Thanks.

im not sure if its possible without a major install.. the stock navi controls the climate temp in the truck.. you might need to rewire the climate control to make it work.. i would say go for the aftermarket approach.. again this is me assuming.. it might be easier..its also attached to the trucks computer.. if you link a phone to it .. you can go online and get live updates on your trucks status..

I have to agree - there are a lot of components other than just the radio that work with the radio and displays. Aftermarket seems to be not only an easier option but also much cheaper.
...pretty sure I saw another thread regarding a factory looking nav/radio too. I didn't see it in the search so it must have been on the other forum.
This might also have some good info for you:

i have a Z130BT with steering wheel controls. the HU bluetooth trumps the Sync bluetooth, but i still have the other Sync features. if i still had my factory radio display, i could still pair my phone, but you need the factory radio buttons to pair a phone. in theory, you could pair your phone prior to the swap and still use Sync as your phone after new HU. i deleted my phone from Sync before the swap, so i didn't personally try it...i'm only theorizing. here's what it looks like. let me know if you have a specific question and i'll answer it for ya.
It can be done but it can be somewhat expensive. I have done a couple, the easy way is to install a head unit that comes in the Expeditions and Escapes. Its basically the same features just in a smaller package, and does not control the climate control. It does take a few hours to install but its not a big deal. We sell the units for $2500 which includes the head unit, amp(if it has no sony sound), antenna, and connector for camera if you want to add one or already have one. Or we do $3000 installed. Like I say its a bit pricey but there is no aftermarket head unit that works as nice and keeps the sync, stock usb port, sirius + sirius travel link. If your a tech junky and like the oem look and tech toys(like I do) this is the only way to go. By the way I'm just giving people information on this and how its possible. If you check with your local dealer they may be the same price, higher or not even know what your talking about, but I'm happy to help if you need information.

I was looking for a dvd/nav unit to replace my stock head unit but I wanted to keep sync. I looked at an adapter that would do that but you need a new head unit with an extra input and the one I liked din't have one in the back. Then I tried the "services" that sync offers and it does a real good job at locating where you are at and where you want to go and giving accurate directions and changing the route if miss a turn. It will look up the address you want or a place like a high school, etc. I will do without the dvd.
