Remote Starter
Can anyone tell me if the remote keypad on a 2010 Lariat can still be used if you install a remote starter/security system? I am thinking about installing a Viper remote starter. I like the new SMART START app for the iPhone and not having to carry a remote. But, I would still like to open the truck with the keypad. (That is if I ever get the truck. Ordered Oct 12, still waiting for confirmation)
Unfortunately not if your using the Viper system. Travis @ kcautosound.com sells the Compustar system and has made it possible to use the keyless entry with it by adding a few relays otherwise you would need to buy OEM.
Thanks, Dark,
Only problem is I will not be able to use the SMART START feature. Check it out. http://www.viper.com/SmartStart/

gavin, check that your A-9 brown disarm input wire is connected to the door unlock wire. then it should not sound the alarm when using the keypad. or you can also try changing the option bank 2, option 7 setting the delays the alarm for 5 seconds when using the keypad.
sure they say the Ford system is one of the only ones you can use the door keypad. but what I found out is if you do have that A-9 brown wire connected like that, anyone can turn off the alarm by simply pressing the door unlock button on the door panel. I did a test with my windows down and alarm armed, I reached in and hit the unlock button, no alarm sounded, and I then opened up the door and again no alarm sounded. Looked at the LED, it's no longer flashing. So I disconnected the A-9 wire and the unlock button no longer disables the alarm. But now the alarm does go off 5 seconds after using the keypad, but I don't care, i never really use the keypad entry.

Thanks Steve you were correct about the A-9 wire not being hooked up. I like your reason for not hooking it up so I am not going to either. Is this why I can arm my truck with the factory remotes but when I hit unlock the alarm goes off? Thanks Again for any help you can give me.
Steve I decided to try hooking up the brown A-9 wire to the blue/green door unlock wire in the passenger's kick panel. It shows 12 volts when I press the unlock switch on the door so I think I have the correct wire but the alarm still sounds when I use the original truck fobs or the factory installed door keypad. Any programing I need to do? Any other ideas? Thanks!
