Remote start question
I recently purchased a 2014 F-150 XLT screw ECOB and I found/purchased an antenna/remote head key off Craigslist for 10$. After about a hour of searching and reading on here I’m still confused. Do I just need to buy the coaxial cable to attach the antenna? (I have included picture below showing what came with it)My truck contains all the necessary parts located behind the console. I have seen there are two different parts; One is the normal cable and one is a TSB longer cable for above the headliner. Also a remote start key head came with the antenna. Is there any way to replace just the metallic key part in these keys? From what I can tell I got a decent deal compared to the 100 Series Kit Ford has listed at 200 something dollars.
Thanks

You need to program the key regardless, not try to change parts of it. I believe there are 2 parts to the programming. You'll need to program the truck to turn on the remote start, have you seen the Forscan thread? And you should probably just get the long cable to plug that antenna in.

Once you activate remote start via Forscan and program your key, you'll be able to start your truck via remote. The antenna is to increase the range of your remote. Without it, remote start is limited to what seems like 10 feet.
The antenna cable itself can be found on eBay.

I got lucky with an aftermarket key for $25 brand new, but they're becoming increasingly harder to find. If I were doing it all again today, I'd just purchase the kit(antenna, cable, and new factory key) for $130

I bought that kit^^^
It works flawlessly, but I will say that I did not use the supplied cable, as there was one already in place just hanging there behind the glove box where the antenna mounts. I just plugged the antenna in there, and my remote start works from a decent distance - as in the middle-to-back of a Walmart parking lot from the exit doors. I haven't tested any further than that, so I don't know the limit.

Also, aftermarket keys are all over Amazon. I have no experience in dealing with these, however.
Edit: after reading the reviews, I don't know that I'd buy one of these.

Lock Dork
They make 'shells' for this purpose, though I think that this retrofit would require destroying the plastic housing of the original key and may not be quite as strong as the OEM key. Here's the only one I saw that has a favorable review on amazon.
The guts inside are reusable as-is and don't need to be reflashed or anything.

Before you buy the cable, check behind your glove box to see if it is already there. Mine was a white color instead of the black if I remember right.
So if you do need the cable, PM me - I have no use for mine.

To program the key yourself, you need two original keys. then you insert key 1 turn to acc then off. insert key 2 turn to acc then off. insert new key to be programed turn to acc then to off, so it needs to work in your cylinder. (or there abouts)
I bought the kit for 130. Well worth it through the winter.
