check post #4,, the auto setting in one of the options in the information center. you can either set it to auto or the last used setting.. so if you set it to last used and you come home with the heater on full blast then when you remote start it will do the same,, if you set it to auto then it reads the outside/inside temps and turns on whichever is needed!

Same here. I would speculate that people know about auto and last settings for the remote setup but as TC said why does the A/C come on based on temperature at or slightly above freezing? Sense makes none.

Maybe humidity? Even though the outside temp is around 30 that doesn't mean the inside of the truck is if there is any sun coming through? It could be the sensors aren't exact too? I have nothing much to view in the service manuals since they are 2012 and they started adding the remote start from factory in 2013.

The 13 does indeed sense humidity along with temp and adjusts accordingly.

Also found some more info on the remote settings and such. From the 2013 shop manual:

Remote Start System Behavior — Message Center Set to Auto

Remote start is an available feature on this vehicle. In addition to being able to start the vehicle remotely, the remote start feature also utilizes other vehicle systems to increase the level of comfort to the vehicle occupants upon entering the vehicle. For additional information on the remote start feature and the other vehicle systems it utilizes, refer to Section 303-06 .

When the remote start feature is used, the climate control system automatically sets certain parameters in an attempt to achieve a comfortable cabin temperature. These parameters are set based on outside air temperature. During remote start, the outside air temperature is continually evaluated and HVAC system behavior can change if the outside air changes between cold, moderate and warm temperatures.

For cold ambient air temperatures (below 4.4°C (40°F)):
  • the airflow mode is set to FLOOR/DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Off in the message center.
  • the airflow mode is set to DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Auto in the message center.
  • the temperature is set to full HOT.
  • the blower speed is set to HIGH.
  • the air inlet mode is set to fresh air.
  • A/C is set to OFF.
For moderate ambient air temperatures (between 4.4°C (40°F) and 23.9°C (75°F)):
  • the airflow mode is set to the last user setting.
  • the temperature is set to the last user setting.
  • the blower speed is set to the last user setting.
  • the air inlet mode is set to the last user setting.
  • A/C is set to the last user setting.
For warm ambient air temperatures (above 23.9°C (75°F)):
  • the airflow mode is set to MAX A/C.
  • the temperature is set to full COOL.
  • the blower speed is set to HIGH.
  • the air inlet mode is set to RECIRC.
  • A/C is set to ON.

When Heater — A/C is set to Last User Settings in the message center, the remote start sets the climate control system to the following settings.
  • For cold ambient air temperatures as determined by the HVAC module:
    • the airflow mode is set to the last user setting if Front Defrost is set to Off in the message center.
    • the airflow mode is set to DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Auto in the message center.
    • the temperature is set to the last user setting.
    • the blower speed is set to the last user setting.
    • the air inlet mode is set to the last user setting.

P.S. What looks like links are not going to work as they link to the folder on my pc where the service manual is installed. Just thought I'd add that before people freak out trying to clickity clickity click and get no where.

I have a speculation that it is related to the defrost coming on when you remote start. Your defroster uses the AC so maybe the AC stays on when you turn the key after having been in defrost mode when being remotely started. It is pretty humid here today so I will test it after work and see if the AC stays on.

Well the best way to defrost a window isn't with just warming the window up, its about balancing the two temps so they are the same. You will find that a window should defrost faster with cool air than hot air. That could have something to do with it.
