Default remote start not working all the time

I hope you all can help. I bought a used 2011 f150 with ford remote start added at the dealership. I came that way when I bought it and no warranty. I searched and found the hood pin was a common issue so I bent it up so it would for sure press the pin when closed.

It works sometime then others it will barely try and start and then for days will not work. Instead the horn beeps. I verified all doors shut. I press lock once and start twice. I am close to the vehicle and everything. I just don't get it? Could it be a relay. Where is the remote start box on the truck. The dealership confirmed they installed it.

If its the factory plug & play unit the box should be behind the side panel on passenger side when u open the door. It should be there & hooked into the tpms module along with the receiver/antenna zip tied to metal bar above rear of glove box.
Make sure the batteries are ok in remotes also ! If the dealer put it in I would think theres some kind of warranty ?

My 2012 with remote start does something similar. Sometimes the lights will flash then turn on like it's going to start, but then it'll beep twice and it doesn't start.

This may sound stupid but here's what happened to me. Like you... my remote started acting periodically one day, fine the next, none the next.. ect. I went and purchased a new battery. Still the same. I thought maybe when I put my SCT tune it somehow buggered it up. After a week or so I found the package of the 2 batteries that I bought. I changed out the new battery with the second one that came in the package. Worked like a charm.. and has been since I changed out 4 months ago. So for me the battery was going dead and the replacement battery was also dead. Worth a try.

Mines a 2013 and acts the same. It's like the system gets confused. Give it a second and it will fire up on the next try!

i have experienced similar problems by pushing the start button too fast. if i double-click it fast like i do to my computer it will flash the lights then honk the horn. if i wait about a half-second or so between clicks, it works every time.

If you experience the horn honking, perform an Unlock, then perform the normal remote start sequence.

repalce the battery in the remote, mine has done similiar things and every time once i replaced the battery it worked mint these remotes must be very sensitive to voltage as i checked the old battery and it was only like .2V or .3V less than the new battery i put in.

Might not be the issue, but...

It sounds dumb, but always make sure you put the truck in park before turning off the ignition. I was having problems where mine would start one day and honk at me the next. Sometime I would put the truck in neutral to coast into or roll back into where I parked and then turn the key off before putting it in park. Remote start would never work the next time. So now that I always put it in P before turning the key off, it works every time.
