Remote Start install question 2011
I ordered the Plug and Play remote starter kit from the dealer today to install tomorrow and then have the dealer activate it. It comes with two replacement keys with built in fobs.
One question has arisen. On all the instructions posted through the forum history it says I need both my original keys to activate it but I only have one with me as I'm on the job out of town 2000 miles away.
The dealer said it wouldn't be a problem but was still wondering.
Anybody know for sure?
Thanks.
Lenny

They can activate the starter on truck but you need two programmed keys to program a third.
Unless your truck is somehow different than mine.
I installed the starter and programmed the keys in parking lot and came back next day for ids activation of starter.

The dealer or anyone with IDS can program the new keys as well as your 1 original in your pocket, when you get home your other key will no longer function and you will need to program it with the others.
You will have a total of 3 programmed keys when you leave the dealer so adding your other key back in will be a breeze.
To reprogram all keys at the same time you take one key that is already programmed and turn to the run position (not start) leave it sit there for about 3 secs turn off and remove, put 2nd key in and repeat on for 3 secs then off and out, now take each and every single key you have including the ones the dealer just programmed and repeat the key in/key off procedure.
Now all of your keys are programmed. Get remote start activated and done.

Well, picked up the kit and ran home to install it. I know I know I shoulda known. opening the opened box I found only the antenna bar module with its wire harness and the bag of two keys. The RMST module wasn't in the box. Of course rushing back to the dealer showed me a closed sign. I'm hoping when the parts girl pulled the keys out to look at them to get them cut tomorrow, she left the other module laying in the parts room somewhere. Why is it ALWAYS when you are on a time crunch that things like this pop up?
Oh well,
