Default Remote Programming

Okay y'all got a question. I bought a 2013 F150 FX4 and as usual the dealer only had 1 key/remote, do I really need 2 original keys to program the remote portion of the key to get it to work? If I don't have them am I stuck with the dealer?

You cannot program keys without two, and they need to be original, not a copy of the key.

You have 3 choices:

1) Dealer
2) Locksmith that has ability to program a key with software.
3) FORScan. You can buy a key, have it cut, and then use FORScan to program it, then use both keys to program the buttons. But, if you mess up, you have no keys to drive with.

If you mess up, you can just start over with Forscan and get it right.

I lost a key on my 2013 F150 and went to a hardware store that was known for having a good locksmith dept. Bought a key online and they cut it and programmed it. works fine!

I'm in the same boat as OP and thinking about going this route. Where did you buy the key? I've found some on Amazon, but am not sure of they're the right fit.

I bought my keys from Fairway Ford on eBay. I only had one original key and just programmed the spare with RS using FORscan. No issues at all and no need for a pair of originals.
