Default Relocate shift buttons?

My 2013 has the column shifter with shift buttons. I'd like to "get in there" and add some wiring and a couple of buttons to the rear of my wheel.

Anyone done this? Advice?

Not sure how to disassemble to get at the wiring in the shifter.

Not sure how the wiring is set up inside the wheel; not to tangle up as the wheel is turning, etc.

Sounds like you want paddle shifters...

No. Not at all. Some wire and a couple surface mount buttons.

Which seems infinitely harder than paddle shifters if you meant you wanted those buttons on the steering wheel.

Steering wheels have what's called a clock spring which allows the buttons on the steering wheel to have a connection regardless if the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left or to the right. You can't just shove a bunch of wires behind the wheel and expect them to work. In older cars without airbags sure they used to just run the wires down a tube and they'd twist with the wheel, but that's not the case anymore. And if you had that figured out, I'm curious as to how you'd get the buttons on the steering wheel. Tape the wire around it to the buttons? Drill a tunnel through the steering wheel to route the wires? Near impossible!

Of course it is - I wasn't trying to sound snarky. I was just throwing stuff out there to consider
