Angry Registration

Hey i just got my registration in the mail from the dealer. On the registration it says the annual charge is 179.00, inside the envolope is a note saying i owe the dealer 100.00. I did have to get new plates, i got passanger plates not commercial. And when i look at the contract it says registration fee 160.00. So im confused 179 - 160 = 19. I called the dealer they said well they 160 isnt really registration fees thats taxes and inspection and blah blah blah. Does this sound legit? Ive had nothing but issues with the dealership since i leased the truck. First they had to have me resign the contract cause they messed up, then they didnt submit the right paperwork to ford so i couldnt pay my bill now this. Im just curious does the 100 make sense??? Thanks

It really depends on what state you are in. I would go to your DMV and find out what fees you'd be on the hook for if you had done everything yourself. Then go back to the dealer and present them with that information. At that point, if it wasn't in the contract, then they get to eat it UNLESS it was included in what you resigned. That's why I'd always be wary if they want you coming in and resigning something unless it was a legitimate clerical error.

Personally, I just go get my own plates, dealers charge WAY too much for their "documentation" fees, it is nothing but another profit center for them.

spoke to another person at the stealership, says that the 160 is on the wrong line and she dont know what that fee is for, but they only charged me $75 for registration, she said to look at their contract which she is right it does say 75 for registration then 2 lines down it says 85 for registration/inspection. In New york the first 2 inspections are $10. So i still dont think i owe 100. I noticed on the bottom there is something in small print saying that the 75 is an estimate and i may be refunded or charged more, but they didnt tell me that at signing, infact they didnt have me initial it either. So with out my initials by the statement saying its a estimate because they never told me i may get a bill in the mail from them i think this is there problem. I would normally pay it with out protest if it was an honest mistake but they have been trying to screw me for a while now and made many mistakes on the deal.

Hey, didn't we have a thread that was similar to this a few weeks back? Where
the dealer said the paperwork was wrong and he had to come back in? A sales
guy who was friend of the family said it was just a way to try and get more money. I know somebody remembers that thread.

Lol yes I do remember that. And that's my impression on what's going on now. I didn't think this sounded legit I would have to think a ford dealer would have some what of a clue of the registration fees in the state they do business in and charge up front for them. I can say other than the stealership I absolutely love the truck! I also love this forum lots of good info thanks everyone

I did sign the newer version of the contract but nothing changed
The original contract was a year older then the 2nd one I signed based on the version # on the bottom left corner. But I did take a copy of the original with me and compared it line by line. I think they thought I was nuts but I didn't and still don't trust them. All the numbers were exactly the same though.
