Default Rear tail light/brake light issue

I bought a 2009 last week and absolutely love it. FX4 trim with sunroof, Nav and leather.

Saturday I noticed the left signal flashing fast as if a bulb is out. I bought new bulbs. Turns out, the whole light is out meaning parking light, brake and reverse.

Shortly after, the right side went out. Hit a bump, BOTH seem to work. Soon the left is out, the right is OK.

Similarly and maybe related, the reverse parking aid sensors are out.

I have not started working with a multimeter but will soon. Before I do that, do any of you experienced owners know the route of the wires and potentially where a wire is pinched? I did jiggle the wires and the plug on top of the spare tire...no luck.

Thanks in advance.

I believe there is a main connection above the spare tire. Start following wires.

Yep, once weather breaks I will follow the wires. I figure I can start with the trailer plug, see if that is correct and work from there.

The reverse sensors also do not work so I am hoping the items are related (e.g. common ground failing)

First congrats on the new ride. Secondly at least you know they do work... and it's just a matter of finding the loose one.
Have you gone through the menu selection on the info screen to see if the previous owner turned off the sound?

Thanks.

yes I verified park assist system was on. I get a message to check it. Also I heard one of 4 sensors clicking.

Okay. Had to ask... Sorry.
Well, at least the sensors are easy enough to replace. It's beyond me, if there's a way to narrow it down (other than checking each one with the new one) to one, or a couple.
Or is it the sensors at all? Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in for you.

Fixed brake light issue. There is a harness plug between the spare tire and the bumper. Wiggled it and lights worked. Un did plug and dust fell out. Hit it with wd40 cleaned it and been working since.

Rear park aid not working. I replaced all 4 sensors and they beeped for a few seconds then stopped and I saw "check rear park aid" message.

I verified fuse was good with a tester and by looking at it.

This is going to be a bit tougher to diagnose.

If that issue arises again with the brake lights. A little Dielectric grease, is a permanent fix.
Still curious as hell, to find out what's going on with the sensor's.

I will start a new thread on the sensors.

Curious about dielectric grease....does it conduct electricity? I think the answer is yes so I would be afraid to use it on a harness like this in case electricity from one pin would bleed to the other.

I haven't had that issue. I have all my lights, trailer sockets and speaker connections greased without issue.
If you were not comfortable with it, just applying a thin layer around the side of the male end will keep water from getting inside, which is really all your looking to do.
