Default Rear diff fluid

I have a 2012 5.0 ( 3.55's). This might sound dumb but want to make sure im not doing it wrong. I just did my rear diff fluid and when adding my new fluid i filled through the top plug till fluid began to trickle out fill hole. Screw the plug back in and was done. Did i overfill the diff or is that the proper procedure?? This is how i use to do it on my old f150

Fill it up until its right below the fill hole. Which is what will happen if you overfill a little and let it trickle out of the fill hole.

No you did fine. I wouldn't use anything other than ford or royal purple. Then your friction modifier if you have a limited slip instead of an e locker, I usually mix the additive with fluid, then pump the fluid in so its already mixed in.

The manual quotes it a life time fluid. I know on my 09 it said 150000. In my own opinion I would do it every 60000 miles. It's not that hard to do. You can also get a drain plug and put it in there. It makes it so easy to do.

That's the way I fill the diffs, never had a problem. I'd rather throw a bit of extra money at changing fluids more often than having something like the trans give up considering I plan on keeping my truck for 10+ years.
