Low and Behold my 2012 F150 with 55k on it is in the shop as I type this. They told me the same thing, that I need to replace the entire rear glass assembly. I had the same problems with the light not lighting up, I figured it was a fuse, I checked that and tried to work my way back to the defroster. I will have them check the contacts to make sure they are working properly, as the rear assembly is $700 installed, and I do not have a warranty.

I don't think this is so. The older power sliding windows did not have defrost that I am aware of. The defrost option was added to the 2010's. The power sliders previously lacked this feature.

Rear window defrost and slider inoperative
I have seen many entries here about the rear window defrost not working, but few indicating a problem with the slider. I thought also that it was a fuse or relay but have checked all and still have not been able to identify the culprit. Originally the defrost light would come on momentarily and then go off. However, the slider would open. Now, nothing happens. Any ideas?

I just had my truck in yesterday for regular servicing and asked them to check my rear window defroster. Sure enough it is not working. Oct 2013 at 51981km the defroster switch failed to work. That was repaired under warranty. I seldom have to use the heated mirrors or rear window defogger and now this. I am thinking that after the switch was replaced the heated mirrors where the only thing working. I have ESP Premium care and the brochure states under Base care Electrical that the heated back glass electrical only is covered not glass breakage. Well mine is not broken glass. $700.00 to have the glass replaced. what the heck good is having ESP especially Premium care if Ford will not honor it. My brochure states the only components not covered by Premium care very lengthy list so I'll keep it short as this is already a long post. Under Exterior Service adjustments, glass and fixed non moving body parts. So they (Ford) are either misrepresenting the ESP coverage of heated back glass with the intent to have dealerships not cover the repair or perhaps even the dealers are confused by the double talk and treating all glass defects electrical defect or not under glass not being covered provision. now I really am Grumpy!

So my rear window defroster stopped working and just had in the local ford dealership to look at. They tell me that the rear window needs to be replaced. 2013 XLT with 10800 miles on it. Clearly under warranty. They tell me that they have to take pictures of it and send to ford before they can replace it. Anybody ever heard of this?
