Ranger Gone?
I saw a story tonight saying Ford closed the Ranger assembly plant? They said it was because the F150 could offer similar mpg for a little more money. What a shame... the ranger was an awesome truck. I had one before my F150
I posted this on the general disc area too.
They should keep it going. I think the major mistake is that its 4.0 sucks gas like a v8. Alot of people like that and thats fine, but alot of people also wanted a small truck with 4wd bells whistles and fuel efficency. It bacame the only engine if you didnt want 2 wheel reg cab model. A redesign in the same current size with the new fuel tech engines would of ben great. Even if they just added the new engines without a redesign (for short term) would of ben better than killing it. I think sales would have improved. Mid size trucks dont sell, look at the Dakota. It wont improve F150 sales that much. Those who bought the truck for it being compact (I think is a big part) will only go foreign or GM. I think its a huge mistake they are getting rid it. Its the Taurus debockle all over again (I hope, they bought that back).

Check out http://www.ford.co.uk/Commercialvehi...ger/Powertrain. Tiny efficient diesels. I'm not sold on the looks 100%, kinda Isuzu-ish. But I think there would be alot of people buy them, just not as much profit margin here as our beloved F150. Kinda funny, so few people buy trucks there, they are listed as commercial vehicles.
I had one way back and it was great, But for a few bills more, you can get an F150. I'm not surprised especially since the F150 has so many options to meet basically everyone's needs.
Just my opinion.
I still liked the ranger though.

The ranger is a great little truck - tough as nails and looks good.
It's been on the chopping block for a few years now and I think for 2011 they were only building the Sport version with the 4 litre. Pretty bare inside compared to the XLT version.
Price difference between my 2010 150 XLT and the 2010 Ranger Sport 4.0 was about $5K and the 4.6 150 was rated for slightly better fuel mileage plus it's and awful lot better bang for the buck over the Ranger.
Too bad though as I still like the Ranger and had good luck and a lot of fun with my 91.
F150 is the largest selling vehicle overall in Canada and that includes Chev and GMC sales combined. Rangers did pretty good here too and they were a handy thing to have around the house sort of like a wheel barrow but I don't think Ford will see Ranger demographics translating over to the 150 as it's a bit of a handful for most people unless you happen to like driving larger vehicles.
