Raido controls relocated HELP ?? INDASH tablet??
A while back I was looking at either one of the Ipad in dash guys or something like that. And they moved the radio controls to the front of the center shift panel FX4/FX2.
I have decided to tackle this project and will be going with 7" android tablet for the use of the Torque app instead of the Ipad.
I want to keep the radio controls and I know I saw this done I searched and I cant find it. Does anyone know who did this. I would like to ask them some questions via pm and get some pictures of how they did it
Thanks for the help guys

Me and hardcoreFX4 do ipad installs, but neither one of us use the factory radio face.. if u want to use it, its not that hard. Extend the wire harness that connects the controls to the actual radio, and mount it wherever u want. Simple as that
And just a custom molded dash bezel would be needed to pretty it up?
I could have sworn I saw someone put the controls in the very front of the center concel
Also I freaking love the look of your install!!! I would use I pad for sure but the one thing I MUST have is the Android TQ app I really want to set up a Custom Gauge setup with boost guage exc.. And the other thing is the Wife always feels she needs to be in control of the volume and the dial would need to be there!
Also I know there is not Effective way to do it yet but backup camera working with Ipad and or Android tab would be sweet!

Exactly, the controls have a little wire harness that can easily be extended. For example, my wire harness was rerouted to my center console.. so when daylight savings time.happened i plugged my controls in at the glovebox and changed the time. If you want yours permanently mounted in the console, its just a matter of fiberglassing it in, shaping it with bondo and painting/wrapping it. In my opinion, i wouldnt do it.. thats alot of work to mount controls u dont need.. unless u dont have synce or steering wheel controls

I guess I don't use the media steering wheel controls enough and if I re trained myself i would likely be happy with out the raido controls.... and that would keep her grubby hands off LOL!!!
Thanks TKO
I ran my radio face harness to the glove box. If I want to change anything (radio settings, clock) I just plug the button panel in and bam! There it is! I didn't want to make anything look weird. I've only had to do this once, to change my clock after daylight savings time. For switching media, just scroll through with the steering wheel button. Make sure you save your favorite FM presets and scroll through with the two skip back/skip forward buttons.
Never had an instance where I wished the radio face was there...You'll love the tablet. Hopefully my fake iPad mini will come this week so I can commence the floatmount!

Ok figured out I am going with the levono 9" screen android tab. And it has 4 core 1.2ghrz processer and android 4.0 ice cream sandwitch

It exactly fits the metra dash kit with zero modifications the only thing is the passenger side clip needs to be trimmed to plug in the micro USB for charging. Spent the day at best buy.
The installers were stunned how easy this install will be the metra dash kit is like it was made for this tablet, only the visible part of the screen can be seen. None of the tablet just the screen.
just throw away the peice to the right
Android makes an app called tasker you can program the tablet to do anything you want when it senses its being charged IE Ignition turned on the tablet will wake turn on at start any apps you want. Key off it will shut the screen down kill all running apps to save power and go into airplane mode to save power absolutely no need to have access to the power button. Here is a video of Tasker at work (dont mind his install looks like crap just an Idea so you can see tasker)

So the plan is to flip the radio down like your installs. Even though the screen is only .7 smaller then the iPad the tablet is smaller then the iPad by enough that no notching of the hvac controls will be needed and no relocation of the hazard buttons.
Serious just flip radio down. Paint the metra panel gloss black to match my fx4 ,mount tablet to the metra panel trim one clip DONE!!
9 inch screen and will have android Tq
Wife ordered the tablet online better deal then best buy. Will post picks when done

I saw that adapter a couple weeks ago and thought it would be a perfect starting point and very easy to add just the screen. I went the hard way - i ordered a spare set of controls I ended up testing some stuff on them so it turned out well. Tried coating the controls with clear - they looked and felt nice but in the end decided i couldnt get them perfect and would look weird, and i sort of cut apart the spare audio controls trying to minimize the foot print - didn't work out so much.
Over Thanksgiving i re-did my lower 'pod' and added the preset controls. I'll post a pic of the outcome just ignore some of the finger prints

I'll tell ya what I love having the audio controls where i have them - its a very comfortable position. while i was modifying the dash the past week or so, i was forced to do the steering wheel controls and voice command while its safer, i feel its a lot quicker and the convenience of having them is a plus. Most people think its stock.
Theres some useful information on XDA Developers search nexus 7 car install some of the installs look shotty but never the less.
Tasker is awesome I have a video showing mine.
I would also recommend a couple other apps
Nova launcher(i'll double check tomorrow) - allows you to use more of the screen and a bit more customizable
Zooper widget or minimalistic text
Torque of course
Torque widgets so you can have the gauges on your main screen(s)
ohh and something i just found which would be kinda cool... liveview
Sort of thinking of putting one of these somewhere so that i can always have a boost gauge or w/e up
