That's a tough one, really only way to tell for sure is to put hands/eyes on.

It's possible the OP has a hydraulic rack & pinion. Any way to check if this was indeed the changeover year(s) of hydraulic vs electric assist power steering rack & pinion?
I had a 2011 5.0l, and it was equipped with a power steering pump....
I traded in my 2011 for my current 2013, and my 2013 is electric. My late father's 2012 is also electric....
So it's very possible that all 2011 & older was equipped with hydraulic power steering (not electric).
I'm wondering if the Electric power assist may have started in 2012 & newer for the 5.0 power plant.

My 2011 has the electric rack. I believe it's a July build date.

Interesting..... mine was an "earlier" 2011.
....The 2011 (and my current 2013) we're both ordered trucks.... and were coincidentally taken delivery on the first day(s) of spring on both....So my previous 2011 was indeed an earlier model.
It's been known to happen with model changes where some parts bleed over to the next. 1996 was a good example on the F150 as it was an obd1 system but it also had an obd2 port under the dash. One of the main reasons I shy away from first year new models when buying.

My 2011 F150 is also leaking from the Rack & Pinion. I got under the truck and found there is a removable plate that holds fluid. The weird thing is the bolts are star bolts with the pin in the middle. Has anyone ever had their rack and pinion serviced due to a leaking gasket? I attached a picture to show my rack and pinion, you can easily see the piece in the middle that holds the fluid
