I have a 2013 FX4 with a 6 1/2 foot box. When I ordered my truck I forgot to order the side steps. I have a chance to purchase a set but the guy I am buying from tells they are for a truck with an 8 foot box only.


I didn't think there was any difference in the steps for either truck.


Can anyone resolve this for me please? I cannot see the steps first hand, as I found them on Kijiji and they are half way accross country.

Talking about the ones where you ''kick'' the button, and they spring out? I see those all the time on screw's with the 6 1/2' box. Never heard of them being only for an 8'.

Yep............... Those are the ones. I dont think he was saying only 8 foot had them. He was thinking the part was different for a 6.5 and an 8. But I think the step is the same for either. Just dont want to buy and find out the hard way.

Looks like the part #'s are same except for the letter on the end.


9L3Z 1520040-C and 9L3Z 1520040-E show for an F150 with 8.0 foot bed.
9L3Z 1520040-B and 9L3Z 1520040-D show for an F150 with 6.5 foot bed.


Dunno what the differences would be??? If they were close and I could manufacture something to fix the differences without too much issue, it would be fine. Just don't want to get into a big refurb job on the install.

Sorry, should've clarified. I didn't mean only 8'beds have them. I meant I have never heard of/or seen an 8'bed specific step. I thought they were all the same

Thanx, but I want OEM's. I had them on my 2010. Forgot to order them on my 2013. Factory option is about $300. Buying frokm Ford now is close to $1000 after taxes.. Ouch, way too much for me. So I have a line on a used set for $250 but he says for a 8 foot bed only. If very close, I could mod them. But I don't want to get into any big mods...

No worries Bud. I haven't seen them on any 8 foot beds either. But apparently they do exist. And I thought they were all the same as well. But now I am not sure

My 2010 (6-1/2) has them and I think there might be a difference in the mounting holes on the truck.
