Default Question about PCV and oil consumption

2014 F150 5.0
47,xxx miles

Lately I've noticed that my MPG has gone down significantly. I've been checking a few things, such as tire pressure, spark plug conditions, and such. I also wanted to check my PCV because I'm down a couple quarts of oil and I'd like to know if it's related. For the life of me, though, I can't get it out of the valve cover. Now I'm fairly certain the blue stem coming out of the passenger side valve cover is the PCV, because I can't find anything else that would be close to it. Do these valves come out? Also, if the valve ends up being fine, should I be concerned with the oil consumption? I used to check it fairly regularly and never noticed an issue.

Not sure what the cause of your issue is, but I think it should be a concern as I have virtually no oil consumption between changes. "A couple of quarts" is a LOT! I have not personally done it on a 5.0, but typically in most cases once you un-clip the hose fitting from the PCV valve you should be able to get some pliers on the valve itself and give it about a half turn or so counterclockwise to remove it.

I haven't consumed 2 quarts of oil in 2 years with my truck AND 10 years before that with a Sonata.

And I'm pretty sure the 1 quart I had to put in once was due to idiots not filling it properly at an oil change.

A bad pcv can make a good enjoy act very poorly. The good thing is they are cheap and the symptoms go away right away.

FYI, according to AllData, if you remove the PCV, you have to install a new one, as removing it shears off the mounting ears. I haven't fooled with mine, so I don't know from experience if that's true.

I usually lose about 1-1.5 qt. of oil in between my 5k mile oil changes. The dealer says this is normal for the 5.0. It never gets below the minimum level on the dipstick, and my fuel mileage seems normal. I would be alarmed if I lost any more than I am now, especially if its "a couple qts".
