Very interesting, i was toying with the idea of a push button start also. I have 4x4 though, so I will have to find somewhere else to put the button!

The video that was on the first or second page of this thread showed them modifying their cigarette lighter.

Just a thought for those considering switching to a push button start kit...
Make sure you can (and know how to) shut the truck off in case of an emergency.

Too many reports of push button on/off cars with throttles sticking, etc. Neutral's obviously the first choice if something like that happens, but its nice to know how to turn the car off with the button while its running.

I believe w/ the Prius one has to hold the on/off button down for 3 seconds to shut it off in an emergency. With the Nissan's the button has to be hit 3x quickly. Not sure how it would work with these aftermarket systems.

Just a thought...

That stardrive or something similar is looking appealing, however I have remote start and dont want to lose the functionality of my long range remote for locking/unlocking/starting. Also would have to find a spot for the button and defeat the locking column which shouldnt be to hard. Might have to use a dremel and make my own hole for the button.

Default Clean installation

After Many hours of looking for a the ideal placement for a push button start on the 2010 F150 XLT I determined to use the worthless coin holder area as the final placement. it took me a while to try and find out if Ford was able to supply a blank insert once I removed the corn holder. unfortunately I had to do things the hard way, and come up with an idea myself.

so lucky for me in the folks advancedkeys.com had an option to buy a black fitting that would go around the push button start. now unfortunately I had to do manual trimming a to fit it into the dash, but after the trimming was done the overall look and placement of the start button turned out to be very clean looking.

I highly recommend looking into more of a professional lookin replacement if there is an ability to do so without taking the 4WD switched out. if you need to find another area to place the push button start there is a square area right underneath the instrument panel that can be cut into with a 40 mm hole saw.

if anyone has any questions please ask.

He doesn't have 4x4. On the 4x2 models there is a not-very-thought-out coin holder in the 4x4 switch's place.

The STX has a floor shifter for 4wd, so I have the coin slot as well.

Though I do not believe I would do the start button either... I liked the idea of another 12v, but I think that it would get in the way of the shifter (As others have stated)... It would be a cool spot for a boost gauge or voltmeter gauge.. So many choices for that spot... on/off switch for a nitrous kit?

That's what I get for assuming. I thought it was standard across the board. Thanks for setting me straight!

Hi I have a 2011 ford f150 FX2. I'm thinking about doing this mod to my truck. I was on the advancedkeys.com website looking at the required wiring and it looks confusing. Is the wiring hard?? Because I am not very good with wiring. Also, with this mod, i would do it in that coin holder. But what if the system stopped working?? Could I then use my normal key in the normal key spot?? Would that start the car?? Just looking for some info and help. Thanks.
