Default Programming new key

So I've searched the forum and google with no luck, have a 4 button key that I've got cut and programmed to unlock the doors, but I can't for the life of me get it to start the truck. I've tried the 8 times on/off with both current keys, no luck, and most other methods on youtube. I currently have a 3 button key but am getting remote start figured out with FORscan so got a 4 button key. Any idears?

You must have two programmed keys, they cannot be cloned keys like you get from Wally World or a locksmith. Insert the first programmed key and turn to the run position (not start), wait 3-5 secs then insert the 2nd programmed key and do the same thing, now take the non programmed key and repeat.

Now try to start the truck with all 3 keys starting with the ones you already had prior to programming.

Aight, gave it a try (I do have 2 programmed keys), still no go. When I do the first key, the door locks multi-click like it's in programming mode, then I do the second key, then when I put the unprogrammed one in it says starting system fault, then I started it with the first two keys then the unprogrammed one and nada.

Is one key the admin key and the other a "slave" key? One video said you have to use the admin key first then the slave key, and there was one way to find out which was which, neither of mine acted different when trying the 8 times on/off method.

You should consult a locksmith for this. One with good experience and knowledge. There are some locksmith in Los Angeles, lockout in Los Angeles that have good expertise.

I have a feeling you do not have two OEM keys, but just one, with the other being a clone key.
A Clone key is basically a key that has had the transponder code copied to it from an original key. As far as the truck is concerned you only have one key.

With that combination, only someone with an IDS will be able to program a new key in for you.

It seems to be a common occurrence with a lot of used cars and trucks. It's a matter of profit for a dealer, as it cost just $50 to have a locksmith cut and program a clone, vs $250 to have a dealer do it the right way.

I have an '11 Lariat. Last year I lost a complete set of keys which included the trucks key, my house keys, lock keys, P.O. Box key and so on... I ended up buying a Ford key on line, I think I paid $99.00?, and then had it cut at the local Home Depot. I tried endlessly to program it myself to no avail., so I just let it go until a few weeks ago. I took the truck in for an oil change and alignment. The dealer charged me $96.00 to program the new key.

Lost a fob on my wife's new 2016 Fusion, got the new key and Fob, couldn't program with one original key, had to have the dealer do it, they hooked it up to their computers, charged $50.

When you do this procedure, is the new key a truly new programmed key or a clone?
