You are wrong

A canned tune is a super chip that's mass produced. A custom tune like mikes is changeable. He can change it around if you add a cold air intake, exhaust, boss intake etc. try getting super chips to send you a new tune when you put a new bolt-on on. Won't happen. Mikes are as custom as you can get. That's why he has a 5.0, so he can see what works with different setups.

Do not listen to North, he is somewhat correct but is also nieve about the SCT. Mike writes his custom tunes for YOUR truck not every f150 out there. He asks for tire size, gear size, add ons ect. and then writes a tune then either emails it to you to put on a programmer then you install through OBDII port or you buy the SCT loaded with 3 custom tunes from him and then load them yourself.

Programmer = device that uploads and downloads tunes

Tunes = the program that is loaded on the programmer to be uploaded to your ECU to run your motor and trans.

Go with Mike at 5star, you may pay a little more in the long run but the service is some of the best around. I called to leave a message at around 10 at night and he answered and answered all my questions. I was so impressed with that, that I ordered one right there and had it with 3 custom tunes in 2 days!

A $1000 for a tune?? Ha ha. I guess a fool and their money are soon parted. Sorry NorthMuskoka, you have this one wrong. The device, such as SCT, is just the vehicle to deliver the tune into your PCM thru the OBDII port. Every wonder why Mike at 5-Star asks for your PCM code? Every wonder why you have to have your tunes rebuilt if your PCM is reflashed by the dealer? Ever wonder why the canned POS tunes don't care what rev your PCM firmware is at?

Res4Cue thank for clearing something up that i didnt know. i now understand why you guys are calling them a custom tune. I was unaware that mike was putting a tune made special for the vehicle or sending a tune for you to install on a programmer that make sense in calling it a custom tune.

So if I was to order a SCT tuner from Mike with custom tunes just how much would this set me back..... Also,, I'm at 20 grand now... would ya'll advise waiting for the 36,000 mile warranty to run its course before installing?

Call Mike and ask how much. You never know if he is running a special.
I take my CAI off and return my tune to stock before any dealer visit. I do this for the benefit of the doubt. If they really wanted to the can see if you have been tuned. Unless you blow up your engine they typically won't look.

The 5Star tunes are conservative and won't push your truck past breaking point.
