I have never had to call him for an issue. Being able to actually talk to the specific individual who wrote my tunes for my truck and answering my questions is invaluable. Knowing I can call him and ask questions and he will honestly answer, adjust my custom tune and email it to in a short time if there are issues is customer service. Try that with an off the shelf programmer with canned tunes.

I bought my CAI and SCT X3 at the same time, aFe failed to put a piece in the box. Mike called them and had it rush shipped to me within a business week.

Just saying, call him with a list of questions, make some of them obscure. Call a off the shelf company asking the same questions. Choose for yourself.

Call Mike at 5-Star.....I live in Orlando and bought a Superchip tuner direct from their factory location in Sanford...I spent a lot of time at the factory with a tech and their laptop computer hanging in my rig trying to figure out why their tuner and tunes did not work. They just sell canned tunes...If you have an issue your in for a mess if you are not local. I gave it back to them after a week. You can only do that if you buy it from the factory...Otherwise you are screwed.

You need to go with someone that understands how to tune (Mike) and understands Customer Service (mike) He will help you out at all hours of the day and night.....Canned tunes are junk. (Not mike) Get the drift???

Flacking fantastic working with him isn't it? He wasn't even erked by my stupid questions. I talked to him probably three times before I bought. Nagged the hell out of him and he was still great.

I should probably admit that i remember having to call him once. I developed a hard shift 3 months after flashing my 91 Perf tune. He emailed me a new tune that day. Shifts even better now. I hit 65 before I shift into 3rd. I have had no other issues with my truck.

I am in the process of ordering an X3 CAI combo from Mike. This being my first shot at this, Mike spent close to 30 min on the phone with me and about 10 emails. I am hoping to get my setup delivered in the next few weeks.

I dont think north muskoka really understands what a custom tune is! You buy a programmer (sct in my book) it comes with canned tunes. You then call someone like Mike at 5star and he rewrites the tunes to whatever you have on your truck or stock. There is a huge difference between what your canned superchips tuner can do compared to what a custom tune does. If you have any buddies with diesels ask them or go check out the powerstroke forum.

He has tweeked mine a couple of times to raise shift points on 1-2 and reduce it on my 5-6. No questions...no charge... I started running rich after about 5 months...he said reload the tune and everything was fine. I even dicked up my tuner doing a firmware update and he helped me with SCT getting it back to life, then resent me new tunes to replace the one that got wiped plus sent me an extra to play with...The guy is too nice...

i know very well what a custom tune is and a sct IMO is just a canned tune. A true custom tune involes going to a shop and getting someone to write your tune then install it in your vehicle. these tunes usually run more then $1000 and the shop usually has a dyno machine and the shop keeps changing the tune till you get the best results. I do know what a custom tune is and an SCT form mike and a Flashpaq form superchips IMO are pretty well the same.

An SCT is not a canned tune. A SCT X3 is the physical programming device you plug into your OBD2 socket.

And as far as the tunes. Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy. Thanks for playing.
