If you don't take it in soon I would get under there and clean it up real good so you can narrow down where it's coming from. It looks like it could be brake fluid how it starts higher than the fill plug. But then again it could come from when it's being slung by the ring to a higher point. If it was me, you already have the pictures, I would clean it up and keep an eye on it so I'd know where it was coming from.

it's not brake fluid. lol if he was losing that much brake fluid, he would know. I see it all the time on these trucks. or any rear/4 wheel drive Ford for that matter.

Because you're all knowing David you can rule out a possibility. Kindof like you referred to the leak being a gasket problem then later said they don't make a gasket. I bow to your knowledge! Or NOT.

Oh and they DO make gaskets but RTV can be used and is used often as an alternative. But you already knew that I'm sure.

haha so you're saying that if his truck with 25k miles was pissing out that much brake fluid, he would still even be able to stop it? and RTV is a gasket MAKER so yep, it's a gasket. in 2 years of working at a Ford dealership I never once saw a premade gasket, parts just gave me a tube of RTV every single time.

It's not a leak, it's a seep remember? But now I bring it up and it's pissing. Hmm I'm not saying that it is the problem I said it was a possibility and that's why I would investigate. The front brakes handle approximately 70% of braking and is on a separate line so I would say yes he could brake.

first off good job trying to split hairs. if it were coming from a brake line then it would definitely be a leak. but it isn't. you can clearly see the lines in the pictures and none of them are wet. I've dealt with brake line leaks near the fuel tank running to the rear on 97-03 F150s and through you are correct in that it could still stop with the fronts, the pedal still feels awful and anyone driving it would know something was wrong.

the whole reason I'm defending this is because I don't see any good in scaring someone into thinking their brakes are about to fail because that's clearly not the case. it's not a personal attack even though you certainly seem to be taking it as one.
