Default Power reduced due to high engine temps!!! oops

so i really put the truck to work this weekend, pulled our 23' toy hauler, part of the drive took us up I 80 through parleys canyon, about 6%, well the eco boost was doing pretty good, had her in 3rd gear doing 55-60 and a semi jumps in my lane and i have to drop to 15mph! well trying to get back up to speed, i was only watching my tranny temps (about 215) and all the sudden my dash gives me the chime and reads power reduced to high engine temps! oops, guess i was on her a little too much lol.

overall still very please with how it towed that lead sled!

93 degrees, 5:00 pm so the peak time of day for temp

trailer states the dry weight is 5600lb

loaded with 55ish gallons of water, 15 gallons of gas in the fuel station, no atvs, but 3 personal coolers, 3 propane tanks (2 full size, 1 5 gallon) and then food and clothes and all that

Pissed? I would be glad it happened before engine damage. I saw 228 this Friday pulling my 7500# travel trailer in 106 degree up a 6% grade. Was doing 55 in fourth. Dropped back to 49 mph and temp dropped to 208 fast. I slowed down before any kind of warning.

Your trans temp should cause that. The trans will set overheat code at 275 degrees maybe at 250 it might start slowing you down. What engine is this?

Trans temp was irrelevant, it was the fact that I got slowed down to 15 mph and tried to get back up to 60, this happened three times, I would say I over worked it. The engine temp needle was buried into the hot zone. It's an Eco boost as stated. I wasn't pissed that I got warned or that it got that hot, I'm glad it has fail safes like this for when I forget to pay attention to important things

Engine oil temp will also peg the coolant gauge on newer engines. I agree you over worked it I'm just curious what parameter was out that put you into limp mode. It is good it shuts u down before damage is done.

i would be interested in what a 2010 5.4 would have for temp safety features... because it doesn't have turbos
