They did that to my friend's father with his 2001 Ranger. He had the frame rebuilt because it rotted out. Traded it in and got new truck home, then the dealer called him and said they could not take his truck in trade. He gave them back the new truck and took the old one home.

Personally, I guess the first thing I would do if I were trading a vehicle with a salvaged title is point it out right up front. I don't know of a single reputable dealer who would touch a vehicle with a salvaged title. The vast majority of buyers will run (not walk) away from a salvaged titled vehicle.

Not much use to the thread, but $12 500 seems awful high for a dealer to pay for an 05 XLT. They gave you a good deal.

No worries lol, my titles are all clean, it shows on the carfax as an insurance claim but does not say what for. That's why in my 13 fX4 when I smashed my bumper I'm paying cash for everything so nothing will go on my carfax because my dealer wont take any Vehicle with any car fax as trade, and they wI'll only take a maximum if a 6 year old vehicle and nothing older!!!

How would you feel if they forgot to mention that the 2013 truck you just bought was a salvage title?

I would pretty much go along with what they say. if you signed the odometer statement and did not claim prior damage the state can come after you with a fine. every state now asked for a odometer statement from seller for this very reason. to register a vehicle you have to have one whether you buy from dealer or individual. it is not like the military don't ask, don't tell. had a friend with a situation where he traded his Ford Ranger HiRider (2wd Prerunner type truck) 6 weeks later the Dodge dealer wanted him to bring his Ram 4wd back in or give them $3k. he never stated it was 4wd and had a clean title to the Ranger, used car manager made a mistake appraising it. he never returned or paid anymore money. they did have a lawyer send him papers as a bluff, nothing ever came of it. probably someone loss their job but it was not his fault. almost forgot they had already sold his truck by the time they figured it out. I assume they still have your truck.

Surprised that any dealer has that much faith in carfax. They should know that it's basically useless
