Default Plug and play remote start

I'm going to purchase a plug and play remote start from my local Ford dealer this weekend. My question is has anyone installed it themselves? They want $700 to install the kit (including $298 for the remote start) and I just don't see how $400 justifies a "plug and play" kit.

Anyone who has purchased and installed themselves do I even need the dealership for anything and how easy was the install?

What year is your truck? Plug-n-play only works on 2011^ If you have a 2011-2014 it's as easy as plugging a connector into a module and attaching the antenna module above the glove box.

The dealer or someone with IDS will have to activate it before it will work.

Default remote

What they all said above ! I bought the remote & installed myself
in about 20 mins - the only sucky part is the dealer has to flash it
to the dash to work & my dealer didn't really like that I had half a brain & could read instructions - ended up charging me $80 which I know was a ripoff !! Trust us you can do it !!!!

FWIW my dealer charged me approx $120 for install, flash, programming and cutting the keys. I brought the starter to them.

I installed mine and cut the keys, my dealer charged me $90 to activate it. They didn't know how to do it either so I gave them the instructions. That's when I decided to buy IDS.

Did you need the hood latch switch the dealer said that they didn't know if I needed it but I see kits for about $150 on eBay so if I did need it I would just wanna know I have an XLT

also where is the module you need to plug into?

Bought a new OEM remote start off Ebay for $120 with 2 keys. Installed it in 30 minutes or so, got the keys cut for $1.00 each at the farmers market, programmed them myself (its right in the owners manual). While I was at the Quick Lane (at the dealership) getting my oil changed, I asked the guy if he had a IDS. He did and I asked him to do it for me and he did for free. It literally took 5 minutes. Just asks yes and no questions.
