Ive always wanted a f150, but for no particular reason aside from wanting a truck. Now with that being said, my local dealer has a '11 f250 lariat, crew cab with the 6.2L in it. Everything ive read about it says the 6.2 is bulletproof, but chugs gas which isnt of my highest concern. It has 75k miles on it, no warranty, asking 27.5k
On the other side, there are a handful of '11, '12 and '13 f150's with the 5.0 that arent as nice on the inside (XL, STX and XLT), but theyre 4x4's...
I unfortunately know I dont need the bigger truck, but man oh man its beautiful! My question for you guys is, would I seriously be going WRONG to buy the 250? as a first vehicle nonetheless...

Yeah it all comes down to what I want, but I would like to know of anyone that has gone through the same thought process (of 150/250) and see where you ended up and why?
Thanks
^^^ that should be a deciding factor right there...... nope

I was wondering if it was just me that got that feeling. Thanks for confirming it.
I love hearing how reliable these trucks are, but I also would love the feeling of a warranty to back that up.
Thanks

I went from cushion ride to rattle your teeth out to a cushion ride again. The only time the F250 rode great was with 1000+ #s in the bed. First thing the wife noticed when she was in the FX4 for the first time.

I also got 10.8 MPG (4.10) in the F250. I really never saw any better than that unless I was strictly on a highway. Now I get 14-18MPG.

With this said, DO NOT BUY AN F250 unless you NEED an F250. I didn't need one but I used it to its capacity a number of times and it did great. As a DD, no way.

Be honest with yourself, do you really need a sunroof? Do you really need navigation? Do you really a sliding power rear window? Things I never once used in the F250. My FX4 is plenty loaded for me.
^^^^^This.

I owned a 91 F250 SCab 4X4 Longbed 7.5L.
I loved that truck, but the ride not so much. Add in the fact it was a long bed Supercab and 4X4, it was like berthing the Titanic to park the thing at the mall. The 460 (7.5L) was a beast, but 9mpg and $4+ a gallon gas was a major part of the reason I let it go. That truck didn't owe me much though. The only major repairs I put into it were rebuilt transfer case and transmission. It had 113K on it when I bought it and I sold it with 253K.
Last I heard it was still going with well over 300K. The guy I sold it to hung a snow plow on it and beats it way harder than I ever did.

In my history I've owned an 85 Ranger XL RCLB 4X2 2.8L V6, 91 F250 XLT Lariat Scab LB 4X4 7.5L, 97 F150 XLT Scab 4X4 4.6L, 94 Ranger XLT Scab 4X4 4.0L, and 13 F150 XLT Scab 6.5 bed 4X4 5.0L.

I've loved every one, though some more than others. The 85 Ranger had no A/C but otherwise was a good reliable truck, so that was the bottom of the love scale, the 13 F150 is the top. It has all the gadgets I've wanted, and the 5.0 Coyote is probably the best all around engine I've owned. Good MPG as long as I keep my foot out of it, and it's got *****.

I drive a 10 F250 XL RCLB 4X4 6.4L PSD at work every day, and that has cured me of both my desire for a Diesel and an F250 as a daily driver unless it's absolutely required.
Finding out what the maintenance on the PSD is really like and what it would cost if I had to pay for it was a sobering adventure.
Don't get me wrong, it's been reliable despite what you might read on the internet, but the fuel mileage had been disappointing on the 6.4....glad I don't pay for that fuel.
It rides better since they put a gas powered air compressor in the bed, and in the winter with the snow plow on the front and a full 500lb salt spreader on the ***, it rides like a Lincoln.
But for a DD, I'm not game to pay for that with my own dime anymore.

When I went shopping for my current truck, I was not going to rule out an F250 if it met my requirements and the price was right because my boat is at the upper end of what a 150 can tow, but I was not looking for a 250 because it was also to be daily driven.

Just my $2.50.....

I picked up a pristine 14' XLT 4x4 Screw w/45k miles (Canadian import) for $25k private party, which here in AZ, is a hard to find deal. I see so many Canadian F-150s here driving around. Seems like the importers must be making a killing on them. But I don't care. I got a great, low-miles truck that I'm going to be driving for the next 10-years, hopefully.

I was originally looking for a 15' XLT 2WD Screw or Scab but I couldn't find a private-party deal on one in the time I was looking. Glad I ended up with what I got. I love, love, love everything about my truck. I particularly love my black and gray interior but for the cloth seats. I'll be covering or having them reupholstered.

This guy ^^ is onto something. Your 26k US dollars will get you a Platinum f150 2011-2012 with 80k miles or less in Toronto. It ain't too hard to import and not too costly these days either. You buy yourself a warranty for 1600 and boom, bob's your uncle.

So my next question about a 150... Ive seen quite a few '16 XLT's for sale around my price range. 20k miles or less, but 4x2. Not a complete deal breaker for me... Is the new model really all that great compared to a '11-'14 with the same 5.0?
Personally, I never cared that much for the 09-14 F150's, but the new aluminum bodied one's REALLY caught my attention. I test drove several and found the interior was much nicer and more comfortable, the handling was better, and it seems the mileage is slightly better. I had every intention on buying one until reality hit that if we have another kid soon we'll be paying almost $2k a month in daycare so I lowered my truck budget. I could still get a 2015, but I refuse to get a first model year vehicle. I settled for a 2014 and am still completely happy with my decision.

So yeah, the 2015's are nicer, but the older ones are still nice. If I were you and in that price range I'd look for a 2013-14. Ford seems to have worked all the bugs out by then, and when I was lurking in the 15+ forums it seems the 2016's still are buggy.
