Default Are "performance" mods a myth?

I am a new truck owner (2010 SCREW Lariat) and I am confused as hell on this whole topic of modifications. One person says the are all BS, next guy says spending $1000 will give me 50 HP and 7-8 more MPG. They look and sound awesome, but do they work? Dropping some more cake on this car is worth it if there are results. I just bought a new car, I think it looks good already!

Your experience is greatly appreciated.

By the way, this is the best @#$*ing info site on the net.

IMO the answer is it is not worth it at all. People will probably get on here and say, "You bought a truck, not a Prius, so don't worry about the mpg's".

But it is a valid question, just unfortunately, drive the truck for work, transportation, looks and just for fun. But buying products to help improve mpg will never get you any satisfaction. The biggest way to help improve your gas consumption is driving with a light foot and like a grandpa and keeping her under 70mph on the highway....which is easier said than done.

But all the mods...NO. If you want them for the sound, looks, are whatever then cool, but if you are truly looking for improved gas mileage then you will be sorely dissapointed.

You're better off just trying to shave off a few pounds. Kind of like a jockey.

You're asking the same people that are telling you about how great their mods are. That's like the Fox counting the chickens.

It really boils down to who you want to believe.

I do light mods on my vehicle only to be a little different than others in my area. Ie looks and sound. If you want you want to shave time off a quarter mile or handle better in corners you will have to spend large amounts of money. It is a personal choice. If you add performance parts it is because it is what you like to do. Be happy with what you do with your vehicle. If you like it, great. Remember advertisments are just that, trying to sell product A over product B. That is why it gets confusing. I sometime bite my tongue because some of there claims are overly inflated. It is like an investment advertising claim 10% on return of your money today....... not possible or everyone would do it. Take care

Superchargers tend to deliver more low end power as they are mechanically driven and thus do not experience "turbo lag". Turbo's tend to generate more absolute power once they get spinning they continue to blow more volume of air as RPMs build.

But either will do the job.

They are NOT a myth... I added a "Type S" decal on the tailgate, a magnet on the fuel line, a Tornado air intake, and I swear my HP has gone thru the roof and MPG too.

I lost (conveniently) the dyno charts but with the "mods" my truck is making 1,236.25HP at the wheel, with 63.3 MPG!!!

Didn't you previously mention that you got 6 extra mpg's by lowering your tailgate, or have I confused you with someone else
