Default pcm question

I have a 2013 f150 fx4 3.5eb
I am wondering if i buy a pcm from a 2013 f150 3.5eb, will it work in my truck?
I know with vw's the last 2 letter on the pcm have to match for it to work in your vehicle.
Im in need of a pcm and do not want to spend that kind of cash at the dealership.

well it might work but you would need to make sure the ID numbers match on BOTH units, however it will need to be programmed at the dealer/ someone with IDS otherwise your truck won't start after you put it in.

curious to know, why do you think you need a new PCM?

well to start from the beginning, I took my truck into the dealer to have my tire size corrected so my speedo would read correct(I have bigger tires). Each time they loaded the new tire size it would read correct until the key was cycled off and back on. It would then return to factory reading. So I bought an edge programmer but only loaded tire size to correct speed. I just took my truck into the dealer for the transmission program recall. I never returned my truck to stock and with the new transmission tune that ford was doing, it threw a check engine light that read vin does not match. They asked me to return the truck to stock which I did. They still can’t get the check engine to go away. They clear it and it comes back. Truck runs and drives fine but they are telling me the pcm is now messed up and the tuner did that. So they are saying I need a new pcm which is 2000 Canadian but I found a used one for 90.00.

What happened was they loaded the new tranny software on top on the edge software... you should of returned to stock prior to them doing the tranny software.. they should be able to reload stock ECM software and be done with it.. ECM just needs reloaded ..

Im going to show this to the guys at the dealer and see what they have to say.
a guy that works at ford in another city who knows these trucks inside out said to do the following:
"start a manual ids session using tear tag with the pcm unplugged to trick it into thinking the pcm
is blank. then once the session is started connect the pcm and perform programmable module installation"
I dont know if this is the same as what you guys are saying but i know this guy knows these trucks inside out.

Yeah that will work just fine. You could do it yourself with Forscan (free software) using a Windows laptop or tablet, and a $30 usb/obd2 pass thru cable. You can get PCM asbuilt data using only your vin# for free from Ford as well.

If your just a little bit pc savvy it would benefit your wallet.
