You're likely gonna have to open up the brake assembly too and clean it out since they're probably rusted too. As far as replacing the actual cable, it's been so long since I've done it so I can't add to much.

Video on replacing the “commonly” rusted badly designed part.

The actuator should have been plated.

You guys are serious, aren't you?!? LOL. What's next, should they have designed the truck to not get dirty?

Yep I think they are!!....
My complaint would be the charges ($525.00) & the guy that said they have to remove the axle????
Guessing @ $100.00 per hr. Any garage doing that repair (cleanup in most cases)....The charge would be $200.00 + any parts...just guessing??

This is one of many reasons the 1995 F150 was a far superior 1/2 ton P.U.
There is a long list of poor design issues on my 2013 junkster that I wish I had known about before trading.

I wish I could get a do over, my old truck was a better truck. I will never buy another Ford product.

This is one of the few things that is exactly the same as your 95 truck. They didn't change that until 13th gen. Have you even looked at it, or is this just internet blathering?

Well 1997, you're not too far off.

Nope, 1995 had rear drum brakes, much simpler and more reliable.

Perhaps you haven't looked, but the parking brake on this gen is a drum brake. And it is a simple cable system. I'm sorry it isn't the exact same part. Obviously, I should have used a different word. Ruined your day. This is unlike most vehicles in 2020, which are using electronic controlled parking brakes. Nightmare.

And....drum brakes are simpler than disc? Is that your claim? Again, are you serious!?

I am just guessing you have never driven a vehicle that needed brakes to stop a big load, I know my 05 F350 Super Duty (4 wheel Disk) stopped a whole lot better than my 97 F350 Super Duty (Front Disk rear Drum) pulling the same Bobcat on the same trailer.
