Did you use Ford paint or just something from the hardware store?
I just used Dupli-Color 2-in-1 scratch fix with the included brush; took about 1 1/2 bottles. I used a Toyota Metalic Black (couldn't get any Tuxedo Black at the time) but after seeing the finished product you might as well just use a generic black; you won't see any fine detail when its done. I didn't have to cut any glue out of mine so maybe I just got lucky, but it was a hell of a time getting the paint in there anyway. I grabbed a set of cheap artist brushes as well and used this wider flat brush to get the first coat in the crack. I eventually had to switch to the brush included with the Dupli-Color to get into the hard to reach spots; the artist brushes weren't stiff enough and wouldn't get into the space. I had to sort of ink up the brush, find a space wide enough to get the brush in, and then drag it around to where I needed the paint. I should have taken pics I guess, haha. Like I said, pain in the ***, but definitely worth your time. I would say my greatest concern with my truck now is "I hope some jack-*** doens't rearend me and f'k up those tail lights! I'm NOT going to enjoy redoing another set!" hahaha.

And yes, XTR is the Canadian version of an American XLT Chrome Pkg

I got some cheap brushes out of the craft dept at walmart.
I think my mistake was using very thin spray paint. Just sprayed some out in the top and brushed it in. Spray paint is very thin.

I had to put like three coats in. and even at that, if you look close, you can tell where some of the areas didn't cover well.

And I did clean mine out with iso alcohol first.

Definately would try the Duplicolor paint if I had a second shot.

Its all siliconed up now with that black type.

With the Dupli-Color I was able to get basically everything done with one coat. I left them over night then looked at them again in the morning. There were spots where I could see light through, so I hit it with a second coat; I'm a details guy, so it would have driven me nuts if I left it. Sounds like the actual touch up paint might be a quicker route in the long run. Its held up fine so far; 20,000 km's of Canadian winter commuting.

Opinion time. I have the White Platinum Tricoat Harley. I really want to do this mod, but I'm not sure which way to go. I like the idea of painting my edges white, but I'm not sure how it will look with the pearl look I have on my truck. Or I could go black, like most of you have already done since I already have the black taillights. Or one other option that is a little crazier is to paint it to match the graphic on the side of my truck

Are the Black out'ed Harley taillights HD? I've heard several references to that and can't believe that.

From what I've read, the taillights are the same, however, the chrome in the light has been converted to black..

No mention of HD lights in these......

Not sure what you mean...I refer to the "harley" lights as "HD," as in abreviated "Harley Davidson." Is that what you are asking?

Really? HD is for Harley Davidson, it's a model in the F150 class. I hope you didn't think HD meant High Definition or something

I used a different technique, Managed to put my hand on a couple of syringes and some medium size needles. Used Testors Flat black paint and injected it around the edge. It ran down to all the crevices and then pooled up where I added to much. Sucked that pooled up part out with the syringe and I have a perfectly coated edge on mine. Tried the brushes but made a mess of the first one and could not get it covered good on the side next to bed opening.

After I did the first one took me only about 3 minutes to do the second one then let them sit over nite before reinstalling. Been at the power wash several times and no problems.

Well, I knew HD meant Harley-Davidson Model Taillights....

but I thought another poster was saying that there were HD lights in those particular models.

Guess high definition lights are HID's.
