Default Paint peeling on tailgate

I'm sorry if this has been addressed recently but... I am the original owner of my 2011 F150 FX2. I've taken very good care of it and all of the sudden, the white paint on my tailgate started peeling. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Same one I purchased my truck from. Any advice is welcome. Thank you in advance!

Don't know how many miles on yours, but I have a friend that had to have his tailgate repainted, I think his is a 2011 or 2012 but is started around 150,000 miles and other than tires and oil changes was the only problem up to them.

Only cuz you asked...
My advice is save yourself the trip to dealer!
Find a good reputable auto care or body shop and have the tailgate repainted.
Even if you do jump up and down you know the dealer is only going to half-*** the job!

Ford dealers are like Honey Badgers...they dont care!

Good point is you can pull the tailgate off and leave it with them and still get to use your truck.

I agree with this. However, that sucks that it is peeling like that. It is a factory paint defect. They should fix it but pretty sure they will not.

I’m with these guys, your truck is 8 years old. The dealer will pass it off as wear and tear. It does look like a ****ty factory paint job tho. Like the 90’s dodges. All those neons and whatnot that had similar paint flake.

Thanks y’all. I’ll let you know how it goes with the dealer. I’ve only got 70k miles on it. Not bad for an 8 year old truck. And mechanically its in great shape.

I have the same issue with my 2010 which just started mid last week. Was already heading to the dealer for an oil change and asked about it. Service writer said he never heard of this happening and when I pressed and pointed to another truck outside with the same thing going on (actually it was worse) he immediately chimed in and said the paint warranty was only 6 years so nothing to be done.

Trying to think up an idea to do a vinyl wrap of the tailgate and somehow turn the corner on the the bed, but can't come up with anything.

This is a very common issue as these trucks age.

I have attached a Ford document guide on paint defects and warranty coverage/not covered.
Hopefully it will help.
I don't remember where I got this guide to give credit it may even have been posted on this forum before.

Today I discovered a big blister just above the tailgate latch/handle very similar to the OP's (mine hasn't pulled off yet but I'm sure it will in a matter of days). I found this post while searching for info and hoping that Ford might be fixing vehicles with this problem but that seems to be a wasted wish. Grrrrr.....
