I will add that you are looking to spend 40-46k on a vehicle and you are worried about the cost of gas? Wow! This is the same as buying a .50 caliber Desert Eagle but not shooting it because the ammo is too expensive. Maybe you are stretching your budget a little too much and should be seeking a less expensive vehicle if you are that worried about it.

I was accelerating a lot harder off the line recently and my average MPG went from 16.5mpg to 15.0 mpg. I started driving normal again with a more discipline than before and I am averaging 18mpg now, it is all in your right foot. But I will admit, it isn't fun driving for gas mileage all the time, but it is nice to be able to choose power or economy when I feel like it.

Nothing against any motors, but the ecoboost isn't a magic pill, you sill have to use your brain. You could do the same with the 5.0L but without the extremes the ecoboost is capable of (good gas mileage and poor gas mileage, ecoboost can achieve both).

You guys are right on. I'm thinking he's over extending to get a "cool" vehicle, but needs to save on the back end.

Maybe consider a regular cab 3.7 XL 2x4 with 3.15 gears if you "need" it for work? 5.0 only if you need to tow more.

Just took my 5.0 on it's first extended drive. To date with just over 2000 miles in about 2 months it's lifetime avg.is 15.8 which is roughly 90% city miles.I drove to my brother in laws over the weekend which is about 100 miles both ways with mostly interstate(I 85).It avg.19.4 on the way down and 18.9 coming back, speeds between 65 to 75 for a good stretch.I'm very pleased with that, heck the wifes navigator gets 12 or 13 on a good day.

Remember he was running 34" tires on his eco-boost. Having a semi-heavy foot with those tires would easily net you in the 14mpg average fuel economy range. You are expecting too much if you have a heavy foot.

Also for how much you talked up a Duramax and down talked your eco why would you go back to one? Finnaly realized duramax's aren't that great?

4 new fords in a year? What does your company think about that? I remember you saying that those vehicles where company owned vehicles? So why mod them if they aren't yours.

If your worried about paying for fuel then don't drive a truck. It's that simple. You have to pay to play. You have to be the most indecisive person next to a 15 year old girl deciding which shoes to wear out on friday night.

And, unless I misread his earlier postings, he was towing a fair bit also.

Holy Crap! Guess I had it coming.

If you must know of the 4 new fords, the 2009 5.4 was mine. Co. bought a 2010 5.4, then 2011 6.2 F250, then I bought my own 2011 Ecoboost. And of the lot, the 2009 5.4 with a 3.55 ratio was the best combination of economy, drivability, and towing ability.

I rescind any bashing I may have done. I did like the Ecoboost, just disappointed that the economy is no where near what I expected based on what advertising and dealers are telling us - and that is a direct comparison to the 2009 and 2010 trucks with the 5.4L engine. Both those were better, much better.

The Duramax is a temporary measure. I have been offered $5000 more for it than I paid for it, so it may be VERY temporary. Hence the reason for asking the question... buy a 5.0L on the lot, or take my chances with another Ecoboost, but this time with a 3.55 axle?

No whining, no bashing, just an honest question hoping for a few honest opinions. Well one things for sure... some of you are OPINIONATED!!!

So to clarify I will tow occassionally (less than 10%), anything over 6000 lbs I can use a DIESEL truck from work. Most of the miles will be empty hiway driving making sales calls, hauling the kids around, grocery getting etc.

Find a the truck you want and do a real test drive with it. If you can't get better miles out of it than you were getting, then it's probably not right even after X000 more miles.

You should be able to convince the sales person you need to do an extended test drive in it. Hell, my salesperson threw me the keys and told me to put it in my garage for an hour and think on it. Same guys also said to "get on it and do some burn outs!"

For 6,000 dollars I would definately take cheaper. My stock xlt 3.5 ecoscrew 4x4 3.55 makes about 14.6 regularly. All city driving and yes I accelerate spiritly but rarely full throttle.

Still you have to factor a 34" inch tire typically weighs 30-40% more than an oem equipped tire. That is why you saw terrible mileage with your eco. Eco's are picky on the economy when it comes to tires/wheels/lift.
