Question OK, different backup camera mirror question.

I just bought a NOS 2013 XLT, and it has the backup camera display in the mirror. Having driven my whole life without one, it's certainly not a must have item, but since it's there.....

My issue isn't with the size of the screen, but with the difficulty in viewing it because of reflections, and the angle of the mirror. During the day, the mirror is of course set up to look out the back window. The light from the back window is washing out the video display. Compound this with the fact you are looking out your windshield while doing this, and you have light coming in creating glare, causing your pupils to restrict light into your eyes. Of course, at night, it works just fine.

Now, if you turn the mirror directly at you, the video screen looks fine, but that defeats half the purpose if you can't see out the back window, and who wants to keep adjusting their rear view mirror?

Two questions:

Has anyone tried putting a square of window tint over just the video screen section of the mirror to reduce glare?

Has anyone made a shade to try and reduce the glare on the video screen side of the mirror?

Tim

1. What is a NOS XLT?

2. I had a 2011 with the mirror back up camera and never noticed any glare issues. I can't see where are located since I"m using the forum App currently, but here in TX there is of course no shortage of sunlight.

3. I had all windows tinted to the maximum legal amount here in TX and never had an issue. My only issue was the screen was a tiny bit too small for my liking.

New Old Stock.....DUHHHH

I've got the camera just like you but none of the glare issues(?). My rear window is factory tinted and I would conclude that yours should be too.

Is there a hat or something covering up the sensor on the dash by the junk tray that could cause the camera display to be dimmed to night time levels?

Just like all other members, I also don't have, nor ever had any issues/glare with my mirror's display.
I've used vehicles with the touchscreen camera view (not the new feature on the 4.2" Sync radio screens, though) and I could see all the dots around the objects on the images.
This is simply not visible on the mirror's image, which is very detailed, sharp and pleasant, especially at night, where so much detail is shown (maybe smaller size = more crisp image).

As for the location of the image, either on mirrors or on the radio is also a matter of adaptability. I'm so used to looking at it on the mirror that it's natural since day one.
If you don't use glasses while driving that could create some reflexions on the lenses, hence glare the mirror's image (possible), then I'd suggest you to go to a dealer and have it checked or replaced. The screen inside the mirror could be bonded on a slightly off angle with the mirror surface.

Sorry about that. NOS does indeed mean New Old Stock. My truck is a 2013 that was built on August 24th, 2013.

Well, it looks like the glare thing is just my problem. The good thing about being in a club of one is the membership meetings don't last that long.....hahahahaha.

What about an anti glare film for a tablet cut to fit?

What Res4 said and have you tried moving the mirror up towards the very top of the windshield and then tilt it down? Maybe you have the mirror pulled down towards the dash and tilted up and are getting that glare?

RES4CUE, that's a good idea. Didn't think of that option. Thanks.

mamonti, I didn't even think of that. Of course the mirror has two pivot points. Thanks for reminding me of that. I'll bet that fixes my issue. Appreciate it!
