Well, I initially was going to put it up on my ramps like all my other vehicles. Only the hood opens so high that it was going to hit the ceiling. So I settled for leaving it on the ground.

So, ground clearance was part of my problem.

The damn little "funnel/rail" under the filter - why freaking bother with it? Had MAYBE 5 drop come out of it, the rest went back into the shield.

Had already taken off the back shield, just wasn't planning on taking off the aluminum shield to drain the friggen oil off of it.

Oil fill tube so friggen deep in the engine bay I had to dust off my old funnel that I haven't used in ten years for an oil change.

Heaven forbid ford stick with either SAE or Metric fasteners. No, lets mix and match so I have to crawl under the truck half dozen times finding the right socket.

Of course, the damn filter was practically welded on there, so luckily I had a nice oil filter wrench that would actually work.

And the dang side dump oil pan shot oil out about 8" further than I was expecting, almost a catastrophic oil dump in the garage.

I will say the oil fill tube is at least a tube, some are just holes in the valve cover.

Mine all boiled down to ground clearance. If it had been up a foot higher I most likely wouldn't have had near as much of a problem. Could easily have dropped the shields and MAYBE made it a bit easier on the filter side.

Luckily I'm not bitter.

Damn I see, I don't even lift mine....just slide under it and knock it out. I do have a oil drain valve though which is very helpful. Since I don't lift it, the oil drains from the filter well....lands in the little plastic pan and all drains out of the rear. I do lift it every other change to rotate the tires.

My point of view may be skewed bc I was a diesel mechanic for 8 yrs.

I don't think the oil change is that bad either. I've done far worse.

You have a ton or room to get your hand in to take the filter on and off. I've done many that are way more of a PIA.

I don't care for how far the oil likes to **** out of the oil pan, but other then that I think its pretty easy.

My 03 and 01 Cummins were easier, but my 04 GMC, 95 Jeep and 98 Mazda were worse.

I haven't changed mine yet, but I have the stuff sitting in the garage. My wife's VW Jetta TDI is probably the easiest I've ever changed. The filter is upside down near the top of the motor and doesn't leak a drop when taken off.

I never have any oil come out of the little "shoot" where I reach my hand in to remove the filter? Is it supposed to?

Also, I don't like that I can't see the filter threads while replacing it, just kinda poke around till it sticks.

Always did it myself though, its not bad considering I don't have to drive it up on ramps.

If the truck in sitting on level ground the oil that drains from the filter will drain out the REAR of that plastic pan you mention. Crawl under the drivers side and look up, you'll see the small square outlet opening. Put a pan under that and just undo the filter from the top of the engine.
Then you just wipe the pan up with a bunch of paper towels from the top side and you're done.

Not that bad... but I remove my oil filter from the top side not the bottom. :o

Yeah I put a pan under that square hole, I meant the spout looking thing in front, hidden by the flap I usually move to access the filter.

I've gone from the top before, it just depends on if I have a step stool handy to reach down that far. Lol.

Dealer for mine - the reason the turbos. I do not know enough about them. Gladly pay the $30.00 Don't sweat the small stuff.

$30? What oil are they using?
I would not trust a dealer (or anybody else) unless I see it being done ....
BTW: what do Turbos have to do with the oil change?
