Default OEM Remote Start Intall

Hello, recently purchased 2013 XLT mega cab. Absolutely love it, just doesn’t have a remote start with it and being in PA in the winter time it comes in handy. I’ve searched Fords accessory site and found a “plug and play” remote start. Has anyone went with this OEM option? If so I’m looking to see if it is a true plug and play install or if I need to purchase new keys. Thanks in advanced!

I also have a 2013 XLT Crew cab and love it. I had mine installed at the dealer for around $400. It is plug and play but they have to set it up with the computer. Came with two new keys. Work great!

Which oem option? They have 2 or 3 available. One of them comes with 2 new keys, the other comes with a long range fob, no feedback, the other is long range with feedback to let you know it actually started and all of them are plug-n-play. You would either have to go to someone that has IDS to turn it on or go enable it yourself with Forscan, a free software download and a $30 usb/obd2 pass thru cable off amazon.

I was looking at this system https://accessories.ford.com/catalog.../category/159/, I have access to a dealership I was at for a while so that won’t be a problem. Thanks for help with it.

@RLXXI is correct forscan would be your best option if you want to DYI and not go to the dealership while learning how to do new tasks with your truck, all of them are plug and play if you get the one with the 2 keys that is your best option as you can get a locksmith to cut them from your master keys for cheap then take your master keys and the forscan and enable the remote start antenna along with programming your new keys only takes a couple minutes to do.

as to getting to it if you do not already know where it is, they are located behind the passenger side airbag for all F-series trucks...

Hope this helps

Local dealer in Yuma Arizona quoted me $200+ for just reprogramming they computer on the truck. That’s with me installing the OEM antenna and having the keys cut and programming to truck. Another said it starts at $165 and can go to $365. I think I will try forscan

I just did mine myself for less than $100. Definitely don't have dealer do it if you are halfway capable yourself.

How’d you do it for less than $100?

I bought the antenna from the dealership for $30 (Tasca also had it), remote with remote start button off Amazon for $25, $20 obdii adapter, $20 to get the key cut by a lock smith. He only charged $5 but tipped him because no stores would cut it for me.
