Default Not another 5.0 exhaust thread!

Ok, I'm in the market for a muffler for my 5.0. A couple months ago I got 3" pipe from the cat back, with a flo-pro bottle. Bad idea. Did not like the Sound at all. So last week, as an experiment, I got a piece of pipe welded in where that damn bottle was. Again, bad idea (yeah I know somebody coulda told me that). It sounds good, but just super loud and obnoxious to the people around me. So now I have a decision I make. I'm looking for something that is still loud, but has a deep and throaty sound, with not so much of "rappy" sound too it. I hate to say it, but I almost miss the way my 5.4 sounded, it was so much more throaty, but I know the 5.4 and 5.0 are very different beasts. So I am looking for opinion/suggestions on to what I should buy to it my desired sound (deep/throaty, but still pretty loud). I already have 3" piping so, I'm only looking for a muffler. If everybody just puts what they have for exhaust, and try explain the sound they have, I think that would be very informative. Thanks for your time, sorry for the long read.

I hate these threads, but in this case I will offer muffler advice to you. It sounds like you would like the sound of a turbo type muffler over a glass pack. Most of those cat backs are straight through glass packs and IMO sound terrible. Very poppy and rough, almost like an old truck with rusted out mufflers. Find a decent style turbo styled muffler.

Which one? Borla makes quite a few different styles. It's not about brand, it's about type.
If you want a specific recommendation, in all honestly I have found the best sound from the Summit Racing house brand turbo mufflers. They are cheap, $15.95 last time I bought one. And they don't last but 2 or 3 years depending on where you are. But for that price you can put one on that often and it's no big deal.

I heard a lot of good things about borla. I do agree with the comment on straight through glass packs, I have decided I do not like the sounds. So is a turbo muffler the same as chambered?

I have mine straight piped right now, I don't mind the sound, it's just too loud for my tastes. And a little to "rappy" if you know what I mean.

I would like to go with Magnaflow, I had a straight through on my 5.4 and it sounded great! I was gonna go with SI/DO. Do you think it would change the sound much.

I went with the Magnaflow catback dual exhaust 15461. Gives a great high proformance sound without being obnoxiusly loud.
