I'm from Alberta and at 32,000 miles, there is no way this truck should be in that condition, even if it was an oil field patch truck. The thing that stands out to me is the paint missing underneath the driver door sill. Only trucks that have over 80 or 90k miles seem to have that; definitely not 30k mile trucks. This thing was ran hard.

What city was it registered in? Did you run the Canadian version of carfax or the US? How much did you pay?

Looks like surface rust. Check the underside of the rockers behind the nerf bar. Thats where mine has rusted. Also the plate for the trailer plug welded to the hitch is another area where mine has rusted. It actually looks cleaner then mine but I have over 60k and its a year older.

Yea i second this sentiment. I mean if you got a good deal, could be worth hanging onto. I saw a video recently on youtube of a guy with a cummins who would occasionally coat his entire truck in used motor oil with an air compressor attachment to keep rust at bay, reminded me of something you would have seen on the red green show haha but if it works it works. Could be worth checking out, could at least keep the current rust from getting worse.

The driver door sill looks like a rub mark from something. Not a normal wear area really.

Edit: went on my brake and crawled under my truck. That rust does look a bit worse then my truck. And on my door sill there is a little bit of wear probably from me not lifting my foot up enough so I would bet that was actually a work truck that had A LOT of in and out by the driver while wearing heavy work boots. also snapped some pic for comparison. My 13' has a little over 60k on it and has spent its whole life in Ohio's snowbelt.

Hmm, I don't think it looks all that bad. If there isn't body rust, you're looking pretty good for a work truck. Axle and diff cover aren't really going to be a problem, they look rougher than most, but it's still surface rust in a place it should be expected. You could sand them a bit and apply some corroseal or competitor if you want.

The driver door sill is from feet. Mine looks similar, granted with many more miles. That's my next task: to sand that down, seal it with paint, cover it with some tread.

There's a reason exhaust manifolds are usually cut off when they need to be replaced. Less rust would be better, of course, but I don't think you are far out of the norm. Do you have shields on the wheel wells? They came on only the EB, I think, many people have added their own on other trucks. Prevents a lot of issues under the hood from spray.

I don't like the hitch, depending on how deep that is and how much towing you plan, could be an issue. Not terribly expensive to replace completely, though. Wait, that's on Static's truck. (got the pics confused in my head for a moment)

Just did my rocker panels yesterday. Remove tape from holes, pressure washer to get debris out, Fluid Film inside, re-tape holes. (some drying time in there, too) Did that 2 years ago, it was time again. I have zero rust on the cab.

We have a 3 day return policy so we need to know if this is harmful to the truck or will cost us money in the long run. We did purchase the 4 year extended warranty for any engine problems. What do you guys think? Should we return it?

Thank you everyone for the advice I appreciate it. We did go ahead and return it this morning to the dealership. We just couldn’t get past the amount of rust.

Poor truck, probably feels so unloved now.

It’s a lot of rust for a 2014 but nothing significant or bad, it will serve whoever bought it well for years to come.

My truck was from Canada also with just about that amount was on it with I bought it with 35k. Fast foward 1.5 years there is a quarter size hole on the drivers side cab corner rocker area.
