Default new windshield cost

are you f'ing kidding me?

I caught a rock about a month ago. Just below the passenger wiper. Nice looking starburst resulted. I called around and found a shop that would inject resin to seal the crack that day. The guy told me they did not guarantee the repair but would apply the fifty bucks if it failed towards new glass.

So Saturday while driving home from work it started to split. It is now about five inches long. I called around today to get quotes on replacement.

My truck is two months new to me. A 2013 with the SoundScreen windshield. Everyplace I called was about the same price for OEM replacement. $500 bucks.

If it was a few years olf I would have sought out the cheapest replacement. But being near new I had to go OEM on it.

But $500, wtf! What makes glass so expensive?

And no insurance will not cover it beyond the limits of my deductable ($500). So I am screwed there.

So Safelite is coming to my house tomorrow morning to replace the thing.

On the brighter side, my insurance is going to reimburse me the 50 bucks the resin repair cost me initially.

When th guy shows up tomorrow I am going to inspect the new piece of glass before he starts work. If it is not a complete replacement that is identical to original I am going to send him away.

Just needed to vent to those that might feel my pain.

I hope you're joking. That the was the first thing I took off mine.

Check with insurance company about a specific glass policy. Or many dealers offer glass coverage plans as well.

I'm blown away your not covered on your insurance. I know my insurance covers at least 2 windshields a year (its 3 i think), we have a no deductible on glass.

$500 doesn't seem too much for an OEM windshield. Dealer cost is proably around 250-300.

That why people go aftermarket! And that's why their is a massive aftermarket industry in the first place, cost cutting.

I believe it all differs state to state. When years back I lived in Florida it would have been covered for me at no cost.

I spoke to GEICO tonight, she said Safelite works with them and she quoted me a GEICO repair cost, it was ten bucks more than the deal I worked on my own. And no joke on the Dearborn truck factory sticker. I want it to be replaced exact as it was broken. All I took off of my glass was the dealers preferred customer sticker.

if the truck was years old I would not care about OEM, but the thing is not even three payments old.

You have the higher quality sound screen windshield which is higher in price, us regular windshield guys wouldn't pay as much but my insurance takes car of mine.

I can't remember exactly what makes it better but it has additional things the regular one doesn't.
