Default New engine Recommendations

Hey guys, so I finally got the bad news. After 160k miles on 2v 4.6 she finally gave up. Mechanic advised I needed a new engine. I’m looking for recommendations on where to find a new engine, websites, junkyards etc. maybe I’ll look into shiny new 5.0 or stick with the same 4.6. Just seeing if any of y’all have any idea where I can start looking! Thanks in advanced.
f150 forever!

A 5.0 would be quite a headache to get a PCM to talk to it properly, esp a new one which would be a gen3 at this point. So that's 4-5 generations of Ford engine newer than yours. People do stuff like that, but usually as a project, not an everyday use vehicle. What transmission do you have?

Cost effective to replace it with what came out of it.

I'd find a 4.6 2valve out of a wrecked Highway Patrol car or other LEO Crown Vic.

They used to be all over the salvage yards at a good price because nobody bought them.

thank you! I honestly hadn’t thought about how difficult it would be to do a swap like that. I just assumed it would be a somewhat “simple” swap

good idea! Those motors ran for years and were reliable. If I can find one with low miles it might just be a steal! Thank you! I’ll have to look around at my local salvage yards
