Default New ecoboost...2nd to 3rd...harder shift

I have a week old 2013 ecoboost screw, and so far I love it! The only thing that I really notice is that when I give it a little gas the shift from 2nd to 3rd seems to be a bit harder than the shifts. Not REALLY bad but a tad bit more noticeable than the others. I feel as if I've heard other guys say similar things. Is it just me being super critical about my Brand new baby or is this something I should have looked at?

The firmer the shifts, the less slip of the clutches and steels, the longer the trans lives.

I had the same thing. The trans learns your type of driving, so if you're in the gas and driving harder it will lock the torque converter and shift harder. I had the dealer reflash at my first oil change and it went away. At that point I started driving easier after the fun new truck phase wore off a bit.

If your going to tow, you will want the firmer shifts for trans life. All manufacturers build in a "comfort shift delay" and what happens during this is the clutches are allowed to slip and gradually clamp for a smooth shift. Be aware, this increases wear and heat...there is a trade off. Those that don't care for a firm shift the reflash from the deal will soften it, but from a mechanical standpoint, the firmer, the better.

I thought my 2-3 shift was pretty harsh. Occasionally causes my head to snap back under very light throttle if I'm not expecting it. Last weekend I towed for the first time, only about 4k, but the shifting felt great with a load behind it.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all of your inputs. It sounds like a pretty common thing. The firmer the better! Idk if I'll have the dealer reflash it or not. Maybe I will when I take it in for its first 5k service, because I'm going to have them check the whole truck out to see how its doing
