Need a spare key
My 2013 XLT came with two keys with the integrated transmitter. I always like having a 3rd key hidden somewhere on the truck in case I lose my key. I don't want to have to call wife to bring her key, and sometimes I am too far away for her to give it to me.
Can I just take the key down to True Value and have a key made that will open the door and start the truck?? Usually my spare key is under the car and subjected to rain, wind, snow and ice.
Or does it have to be one of those with the transmitter that may not be used for years, and will have a dead battery when called into use.

To add to the original post, can you get a blank regular key to use just to open the doors and tailgate? That way I can unlock the tailgate w/o shutting off the truck. Also is it normal for Ford to only provide 2 keys and no spare or valet type keys?

I always kept extra keys to my cars on a hook in the garage, The bad thing was, if you lose your keys while away, the key in the garage is useless. Then a light bulb went off! Now I hid my extra ignition key in the cab of the truck since I can alway enter the cab with the keypad on the door. Problem solved!

Now well hidden within the cab, the keyless entry becomes a lifesaver if I were to lose my keys. No good to be able to get into your truck without having the key to start it !!
