Default need pricing help

Hey guys. i was at the dealer unti l830 tonight picking up my truck from getting the windshield replaced. though i would take a look around at the leftover 2011s and see what i could get price wise on like an Fx4 or Lariat-- wanted something with leather, heated seats, maybe navigation, and was looking at maybe a small increase in payment

there was nothing that i was thrilled about, and they tried to get me into a 2012 with less rebates and it wasnt working

then there was a demo 2011 platinum with 5,700 miles on it. dark red crew 4x4 absolutely loaded- heated cooled seats navigation moonroof tailgate step everything. so we started to work on pricing. MSRP of high 51s-- i flat out told the sales manager up front i didnt expect to be looking at a truck this expensive

bottom line, we are well below 'invoice' (i have a copy) as expected with the platinum since it was a demo, but also with the original Fx4 i also looked at.

How much extra discount should i expect based on the fact that it is a demo. this is where i am lost... he seems to be taking the same about off of both the fx4 and the platinum as far as being below invoice, but then giving me nothing for it being a platinum.

MSRP was like 51.7, then he started from invoice price of 47 and took out the 1.5k of dealer holdback. down to 45500 he took out the 3500 in rebates for the 2011 model year (up to 4500, but there is a 1.9% rate if you only take 3500 i guess?) so we are down to 42500 on the truck, almost 10k off sticker which is unheard of in MA as far as i know; to top if off they offered me 21,500 for my trade which i only paid 23 for AT THE SAME DEALER TWO YEARS AGO. this is what is making me think about dumping my truck; only $750 a year in depreciation?!?!

so total financed would be about 37,250 with the equity in my truck; paying about 42,500

am i wrong to think more should be coming off since its a demo with 5700 miles? when he was only 2 grand lower on the 2012 fx4 that didnt have navigation or heated seats?

did you guys get similar (10 grand offf MSRP, 1500 below invoice) on NON-DEMO trucks? i have only ever leased a demo, which is usually good for over 100 bucks on the payment... not sure about what to expect on a flat rate though to purchase!

5700 miles of testing

is a 6.2 or eb?
he can do better he started at invoice hahahahah

check the build date? with that many miles they have had it a while
ask for the platinum to be 34 then subtract your equity from your trade
10 k off sticker is a joke on a truck thats likely a year old and has been TESTED 5700 miles

why? because an X plan is at 38k for a zero mileage platinum with out any options

i told them originally i wanted to be at 34 on a new lariat or fx4!

build date was 12/30 2010. the guy who was driving it is the dealer (herb chambers) brother. i know him decently.

x plan on it is like 47 not 38. with no options it is 42. there are many options that i would never have paid for-- ie man step and bed extender... but no runningboards... stupid

any more opinions? i would obviously love 34 before my trade but i dont think that will happen

and i have a copy of the invoice since i told him i would be x-plan eligible if i wanted to be, but then since it was a demo i expected more. then he ended up giving me the invoice on a 2012 fx4 as well. his lowest price on that was only 2 grand less than the platinum

any help would be great guys. thinking about this for today!!!

I ran into the same situation back in 2008. I went to the dealership near the end of the year when the rebates would be better and found the exact truck I wanted while walking around on the lot. After meeting with the salesman, he informed me that the truck was the owners demo and had 5,900 miles on it. At that point, I was thinking, hell yeah, more money off.... But, that was not the case. They actually had the exact same truck sitting right beside it in a different color with 6 miles on it. To make a long story short, there wasn't much discount for the one I wanted being a demo, in fact I could have bought either truck for nearly the same price but the demo was the color I wanted so I bought that one. What I've learned since then, there isn't much of a discount of the price for it being a demo like we all think there should be...
By the way, the Platinums are Bad Azz!! The fold out steps are cool too..
Good luck with your decision making..

actually for my zip code x plan is 38 and change for the base plat. after rebates and incentives ( which should be available to you as well)
now you didnt say in your original what options it has, is it the base engine 5.0? does it have nav and sunroof, we know now it has the tailgate step and extender ,does sit also have the trailer brake controller? all of these are options that drive up the base price
maybe a boston zip make sit a bit more, but not 9k dollars
did i read it right...it has no running boards? the plat comes with auto deploys as standard. if they are not there and replaced with something else then that DETRACTS the value as a plat truck and the dealer did that not ford assembly, maybe a test drive knocked em off???? if you build a plat and remove the deploy boards it also removes the plat and drops you to a lariat.
maybe post the pdf of the sticker......

either way his asking price it to high for the truck imo
its your money do what makes you happy

and Merry Christmas

I paid 43k for a brand new 2011 Platinum that stickered for $51800, just as the 2011s were coming out. With that many miles on it, I would say a more reasonable price is probably in the 37 range. I wouldn't pay anything above 40.

If it doesn't have running boards, someone took them off, which detracts about 3k off the value I'd guess. It is the main feature it has over a lariat. So you should be more in the 35 range if this is the case.

Fellow New Englander here. Give a call up to Portsmouth Ford in NH and have them price out something similar for you. They may not have exactly the truck you are looking at, but they will have something in the ball park price wise. I have searched extensively in MA and NH and Port Ford is by far the lowest priced Ford dealership I have encountered. May just be my experience and quite honestly we don't use them for service because they aren't close to where we live, but we buy all of our Fords from them because of the price. If nothing else, its another comparison for you.

If your Platinum doesn't have the power deployable running boards, I would think you would want to make sure you ask why....

One of the reasons I have brochures from 05 to 11. I like to make sure what I'm looking at is what it's supposed to be.

hey guys-- the platinum did have the running boards, they were just up and i couldnt see them. Yeah X plan up here was what i said earlier... truck was loaded with everything-- nav moonroof htd/cooled seats etc.

the lowest i could get them on that truck was 569 a month which was too high

i have an agreement credit pending with them on a lariat, all the same options except the running boards and the wood steering wheel. it has normal running boards though, and it has the 3.73 rear too

they gave me 22 grand for my 08 which i was happy with, and we were about 1000 below invoice for pricing on the lariat. i only owed 16500 so i had significant equity. ended up out the door on the lariat with a sticker of 50 grand for about 35 k financed

thoughts??
