I thought it was a combination of suspension, wheels and tires.. Makes the limited a better way to get your family to the mall but not so good for using the half ton truck as a 3/4 ton tow vehicle...

BTW - max tow does not come with LT tires either...wish it did. Only the HD payload F150 comes with LT tires. Well that and the Raptor.

Isn't the limited a AWD system? Suspect it has something to do with that.

Its awd or 4wd the awd only works if the front tires lose traction

It's AWD, 4 HI and 4 LOW and the AWD activates when the rear tires lose traction. Unless you have a very rare front wheel drive F-150.

The AWD drive system has no bearing on tow rating, it has to be the wheels, I can't seem to find any other info to credit or discredit that claim though. Sucks, if that's the case, I may have to buy new wheels.

I don't know if you have read this yet or not. I have a friend with a 2011 Limited and was under the same impression. Everything points to the tire size, but there must be more to it.
