I ordered an 87 towing tune from 5-Star. Got an email from them that said my truck was 3 or 4 updates behind latest calibration and should be updated before they send my new tune. Anybody have any luck with having the dealer update their computer?
I guess I could tell them I was having troubles, but there aren't any codes.

 

? Not sure what the question is... you just call the dealer and go get it updated ( although may need to make an appt depending on the dealership ).

They do it all the time.

 

The dealer shouldn't have an issue updating the PCM, they'll most likely charge you though.

 

I got the same email from 5 Star when I ordered custom tunes. I needed the brake master cylinder recall done anyway so I made an appointment for that and had them update the PCM at the same time. The dealer charged me $30.

 

How does 5* know what updates your PCM has,without even seeing the vehicle?

 

5 Star knows after you send them the current strategy code from the PCM.

You could always make up something and have them update it. Or just pay out of pocket for the update.

 

Is there any benefit to having the computer updated if the truck isn't throwing codes?
