My first problem and question
Hello to all; I picked up my truck one week ago today. So far, so good- no shudders, squeaks, rattles, nothing- no complaints- except for one. Last weekend, I took off the wheels to install factory mudflaps and lube the hubs and wheel studs. While the tires were off I noticed all four had dry rot cracks starting to develop about an inch above the inside bead only. The tires are Pirelli scorpion atr(20"). A quick google search was quite an eye opener! So, yesterday I took it back to ford( the truck has 132 miles on it as of today) and the service writer made a face when I told him why I was there. After about an hour, he told me he took pictures of the cracks and was going to call Ford find out how they wanted to handle it. I haven't had to deal with a domestic auto maker service dept. for 10 years- Am I going to have to dog this guy every other day to get this resolved? Secondly, I really don't want another set of this POS tires if they're going to do this every 2 years. What would you guys recommend as a replacement tire for someone who never goes off road? Another quick question: Is there a way to set the seat heating and cooling to auto start when you start the truck?(I'm talking with the key, not the remote) I am already tired of manually pushing the touch screen EVERY time I get in!
No way on the seat heaters and coolers with out remote start. At least not on mine.
I've narrowed my tire replacement choices down to either the BFG Rugged terrains or Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo2 in 275-60-20. Still a P rated tire that weighs even less than the POS and should get better traction.

Gt a new set from ford and go to your local tire shop and trade them in ASAP. They only want tires with very limited miles.
The seat heaters and coolers can be turned to auto on your in dash options.

I too have those Pirelli's but have been running Duratracs for the winter, been really pleased with them. Going to put back the Pirelli's for now but if I were to change I would probably go Michelin LTX M/S as I had great experience with them on my Explorer.
As for the seats from what i have read on here and heard there is no way to set them to come on when you auto start from the key, I think they work and come on at certain temperatures. Do not know what those temps are but my heat seat has come on for cold and cool for hot weather, but not consistent.

The latest update: The dealership called me late yesterday and told me they were ordering 4 new replacement pirelli's! I asked if there was any possibility of swapping to another tire- no luck. Oh well, it is better service than I expected anyways, so I will takes what I gets. Truthfully, I expected more of a battle than they gave me- maybe there is hope for Ford yet?!?! Now, Do I drive straight to discount tire and get different tires, or do I keep these? Off topic: My last Ford was a 1986 diesel dually- I still cannot believe how far ford has come from that to the current truck!
I will say one positive thing I found on my last set of pirelli's, is that they are hard compound and last.
I have them again on this truck. I got mine in Nov, my co-worker a month before. I've got 3,300 miles he has 5,000, with the factory 18" Goodyear's. Mine still look new and his are literally almost half gone.
I always seemed to wear out Goodyear's fast myself.
I remember I had those Goodyear TD series, back in the 90's. I burned up two sets in one year.

Before they install the tires, INSIST on them reading the date code on the tires, which show the week and year of manufacture. Accept nothing that isn't 3 months old or NEWER.
Also - there are FIVE tires. Check the spare's date code also.

They called and said the tires are in! I am currently sitting @ the dealership while they mount the tires. I am having them mounted blackwall out. I think the OWL looks a little- well you know. They wouldn't let me check the date codes beforehand, But if there is a problem, at least blackwall out, I will see it right away. It was kind of funny- the service writer told the tech to bring the take-offs straight to the service mgrs off before they disappeared.
