Default My Blue Oval fell off the tailgate today!

My truck sits under my carport facing east all day and I had the tailgate down most of the day. It gets pretty hot in the afternoon. Anyway I had to go pick up a pizza for the grandkids, raised the tailgate and noticed that the oval was just hanging by a little bit of glue or tape at the bottom edge. I went ahead and finished pulling it off. Should I just go get some 3M tape to put it back on? I really don't want to go to the dealer (40 miles away). The glue or tape that's on there is black and really thin sorta like a gasket.

Coming from someone that had a similar thing but on an Escape, I would call them and tell them what happened so they can order it in. It seems that nothing you ever need is ever stocked. I also think its worth the trip. If you're lucky, maybe they'll mail it to you?!

You just need some 3M tape to fix it. Ive debadged and rebadged my cobaltSS multiple times. Sometimes the tape doesnt adhere correctly and the badges fall off.. no biggie.

Well I've got to go to Beckley tomorrow anyway so I'm going to stop in and see if they'll just fix it while I wait. If they say it'll take a week or so I will just go get some 3M tape and fix it myself. Since I've got it off I may just experiment with some decal overlay ideas. Thanks for the replies.

Sorry about your oval falling off...did you happen to see any reason for the white streak after washing problem talked about in this thread?

Thanks

This thread just reinforces my theory that the soap we are using to wash our trucks is slowly breaking down the adhesive tape that Ford uses on these emblems. I'm waiting to hear from my local dealership to have a new emblem installed and make sure that no water gets behind it.

Actually I looked for that but didn't see any streaking at all. I just peeled off the black sticky tape a few minutes ago and for everyone's info there are 6 holes total under the oval. I will try to get some pics up later (we're having a gully washer here right now). Another note, the oval is what came undone from the tape. The tape was still very solid on the tailgate. I noticed that it looked like this was happening for a while because there was a lot of grit between the tape and the plastic oval part. The back of the oval is not solid, it has several tabs sticking up, so it doesn't have much real estate to stick to.
