Default Multi function switch issues

Hello. I have a 2013 Lariat with rain sensitive wipers and a lot of other bells and whistles. I bought the truck used last year and the blinkers would not turn off. I had to turn them off manually which was no big deal but then recently the intermittent wipers would not turn off. I ordered a new switch from Rock Auto and replaced it myself. It's a very simple task. But the new blinks 3 times and then turn itself off without even moving the steering wheel. So, I ordered a new one thinking it was faulty. I installed the newest new one and it is doing the same thing. I can tell that someone had already done something because one of the screw holes was broken out. That isn't the problem though. There seems to be something missing that should trigger the switch to turn off but I didn't see anything different about the original one and the newest one. I tried to find a diagram to show the steering wheel and all the functions, but I have been unable to do so. At least the wipers stay off now. Any ideas? Thank you.

Gary house...
If you tap the turn signal lever (a.k.a. lane change mode) , the default is 3-flashes. *IIRC this can be increased using Forscan.

Pressing the turn signal level up|down until it stops, activates continuous flashing until electronic cancellation (i.e. steering wheel movement) or manually repositioning the lever to its home position.
.
All of the above is explained in the owner's manual.

Your description is pretty bad re what the problem is now you've replaced the switch, however if i had to guess, it would seem you're saying the following?

The indicators are the issue now, all else work ok?

The issue you're experiencing is that the indicators are flashing 3 times and then stopping?

If the above are true, then you're not pushing the stalk far enough, a light push in either direction will cause the indicator to flash 3 times and stop, to get them to stay on until cancelled (by either wheel rotation or stalk movement) you need to push the stalk further. i.e it's now working as designed.

I've been driving now for 57 years. I know how turn signals work and mine does not work properly. I push it all the way up or down and it blinks 3 times and shuts off before turning the wheel. This is not normal.

Thanks for the reply but I think my post was actually pretty good. I described in detail what the problem was. I'm sorry you couldn't understand it. I know how turn signals work. I've been driving for 57 years and when you push the lever up or down and it blinks 3 times and shuts off before you turn the wheel, something is wrong.

Current switches should have 2 levels. Neither lock the switch up or down physically, it always comes back to center. If you push to the first level, it flashes 3 times and stops. If you push past that it will keep blinking until you turn the truck or push the switch again. Most cars now do this, your 57 years in the past were with different tech, so they really don't apply. If it doesn't have the 2 levels, it is physically broken.

There has been many things written about the Multifunction switch in the 2013 F150 and the rest that actually have the same type. Ford switched it back to the type that locks in up or down because people were having problems.
You can feel a spot like an indent for it to stay on.

Both Siber and Spiky answered correctly, and as much as driving for 57 years is very tiring, this is a fairly new thing in the last 10 or so years.

As already said, and i'm reiterating it for attention, if you can't use like in the video, then new or not, it's a broken switch.

The switch has no indent. If I hold the lever up or down all the way it will stay on but as soon as I release it, it stops blinking. This is the second new switch I have installed and it is doing the same as the first new one. I guess the newest new switch could be bad but that's hard to believe but I will order another and see what happens. . I searched for a switch for a 2015 model and there is a lever on the switch that is not there on the one for the 2013 model. Thanks for your help.

Weird. What brand have you purchased? I can't help but think you aren't pushing it far enough.
